atx i assume? use a mechanics stethescope. just put it on each thing and listen, it will be pretty obvious which one it is. are you sure its not just bad belts squelling though?

im not 100% if its the belt or not and i tried a backyard stethescope with the screwdriver as i was told and its so loud i cant find out exactly where its coming from, my guess was the power steering since its the same squeel, ill just pick up a new belt since im gonna need to do the 120k matinece soon anyways, its been giving me problems starting time to time now and im pretty sure thats the fuel pump since i hear a water gurgling noise now from the tank, today was a real rough start i had kept trying to start and it didnt want to and it even backfired a little and after i kept turning to the on position and back a few times it finally started so i was a bit concerned but im gonna keep it off the road and start replacing a lot of things and try to get the car back in good running order, plus i noticed a huge power drop, i mean it still goes good but i dont get thrown in the seat like i used to. thanks tho

Since you have the belt off, turn all the accessories and idlers by hand and see which one either makes noise or feels rough.

A high pitched whining noise that goes up with engine noise tends to be a pulley, or excesive belt tension. I had an Idler go bad on my SHO and it made the same noise, yanked a junyard pulley and noise went away. I've also fixed this sound before on a freinds by setting it to proper tension, hope that helps yah!

i know its been a few months, but just had the idler pulley replaced and that took care of the noise.
