Yet another chapter in the never ending story that is my SHO. I was on the highway when my 93 atx started to lose power(felt like it was running on 5 cylinders) this happened for about 3 minutes before I "felt" it go back to full power. It has new wires and plugs as well as a new tps sensor. I checked the plug boots and all are dry and secure on the coil pack. I am going to check the codes. I had a similar problem before I changed my wires and after I changed them it went away. It feels like I am losong one of my cylinders. I have Bosh 8mm high performance wires on it-new. Could the coil pack be going? My problem before my wire change seemed to occur after I cleaned my motor(water in the wells?). Any suggestions will help.-M

I used to have that problem every time I had the car detailed. It was water in the plug wells. If that 's what it was, it will evaporate in a day or two. If the problem persists past that, you have other problems.

Here's a couple of other things that are fairly simple to check that could cause the problems you are describing. First, change the fuel filter. Especially if the problem goes away when the secondaries open up. A little piece of trash in the wrong place in the filter can cause what appears to be a dead miss. Obviously, when the secondaries open up, the fuel pressure increases enough to get by the small obstruction. In any event, it's a $10 part, and very easy to replace.

Also, follow the wires from your injectors to anyplace they contact metal, especially around the intake manifold. One tiny bare spot can keep an injector from firing. Just keep some electrical tape handy, and cover anything that looks suspicious.

If those things don't work, go with the codes. Some things on these cars will set codes without turning on the check engine light, so check them even if the light isn't on.

Good luck.

Don
