Okay, my winter project is really turning into a winter treasure hunt now. After successfully changing out the water pump and all the associated belts and such I decided that I’d do the valves, too. Not a problem. In addition I figured I’d replace the EGR tube, since mine has been shot for a few months, not a problem, either. However, I find out that it is discontinued and thus my first choice is to call Tom and the crew at the SHO-SHOP. Opps, they do not have any either. Now I turn to the WWW. DOES ANYONE OUT THERE have a lead on an EGR tube for the a 91 - 3.0
If so please feel free to call me, 415-760-9926, I will be more that willing to pay for shipping and your time, as appropriate. Thanks, David

Might just try to repair yours. I filled my holes in with brass using a Mapp gas cylinder instead of propane. It would probably be easier to get some corrugated flex copper the same diameter (well different enough so you can get a slip fit inside or outside) as the stock tubing. You know, the stuff used for hot water heaters and the like. Home Depot has several different sizes. Anyhow it would probably be easier to cut out the offending part of your stock pipe and braze in an equal length of matching copper corrugated flexible pipe. That's what I should have done instead of filling in the holes with brass.

You can try doing it yourself or just pay a welder $10-$20 to do it for you.

Thanks for that lead, and in fact I have my chief engineer doing just that. In the mean time I am still looking for one, mainly because I would like one that is not repaired and one to have on hand if this repair is not successful. Mine has more than just holes, it is bkn in the flex part in a couple places. Still looking…

Yeah, that's like mine was. The flex portion was severed almost completely around in two spots. It took me a damn long time to fill that in with brass. I basically squashed the assembly together with two weights and then filled in the cracks little by little. I'm sure your engineer's repair will last a good long time. Lot's of people have brazed their broken EGR tubes.

I too wouldn't mind having a spare (well intact would be a bonus but I expect many of them out there probably need fixing) so I can make a proper repair at my leisure by doing what I mentioned above: cutting out the "cancer" and brazing in some copper flex pipe.

Still trying, I don't know what the last two posts were about but, let me add. Please stick to the topic of providing assistance and positive feedback to us.
In addition to looking for the ERG tube for this 1991 3.0 A I had thought, and would like your ideas on it. Would a EGR tube from a newer V-6 3.0 possible fit the 91? Again any assistance will be welcomed.
Thanks, David.

Oh, sorry. Sometimes our moderators get so busy, that they let their cats type messages, while they dictate. Beth's cat is still pretty new at it.
As for the tube, I don't know about all that brassing, or how to fix one, but I will tell you that if you need to replace the EGR valve, you should go to a dealer for the part. Those things are coded for certain cars, but I do not know the differences between them. There is a way to clean them out, but I don't know how to do it.

The tube should be pretty easy. If Roseville is in southern California, go to a junkyard, and pull one out of any '91. If you live in northern California, pay some sorry bastard to do it for you.

Notice how I didn't tell you to go to a dealer to get the tube? That's because the tube costs about twice as much as the valve, and the valve is about $85. Yup, your math is correct. That puts the tube somewhere in the $160-$175 range!
Ok, how many smilies apply to that little bit of info? boink oh_my bs  eek! shrug frown

Thanks for the info San Diego, however, the whole reason I am turning to the you folks on the WWW is because the tubes are discontinued, as of last March. I am hoping that someone out there might have something in a parts eng or box. Thanks again, oh yea, Roseville is in the Sacramento area. David.
P.S. here is the smile that applies to your info... frown

In that case, there's only one place to turn. http://www.shonutperformance.com/ If josh can't get it, you probably never will. (he found the last '92 throttle cable on this, or any other planet)

Also try www.copartfinder.com. For a small fee, you can find all junked '91s, according to distance from you. Call each yard for part availability.

So did you remove the tube and plug the hole? Have you had the car smogged in CA and most of all did it pass? I really hate jurry-rigging my car but I hate it even more sitting in the garage, waiting for one BS piece of non-essential part. I guess if I go for removal and plugging I need to know if it will pass smogg, liveing in the Sacramento area, we have the enhanced smog test. I have not had to meet those as of yet, because I have been living in the bay area. Well, this give me another option, one I thought of but was/am trying to avoid. Thanks, and get back w/answer when you can. eek!

Anyone ever try to use the EGR unit from an ATX to replace the Calif. MTX assembly ? Since there are plenty of 3.2L conversions going on, somebody may have a EGR system sitting in their parts bin. I know I have a complete prefectly good assembly packed away in a plastic bag somewhere in the garage.

I'm ready to try anything, I was hoping that this hunt was not going to turn into a career, however...
If you would be willing to part w/the one you have I'd like to try it, and if it does not work I will send it back. I would pay you what you think it is worth to you.
signed, still searching, David.
P.S. my number is in the origional post, if you'd care to call and work something out.
