ive done it by passing it through the wheel well. youll need to remove the sway bar links and tire. sometimes the ball joint is an issue for some people. ive done it with just removing the tire before, just takes a bit of turning. getting the wires off is a bit of a pain too. plan on half a day if all goes well. that alt gets heavy after holding and rotating it for a while trying to fit it threw the hole.

mild to very difficult? are u serious? It's actually really simple... depends on what year you have. And... if its over 4k when it happens... I would imagine your belt is the issue... or suspect it anyway.. is it tight? cracked? smooth / shiny?

good point on the belt she had to bypass the ac compressor since it locked up and they made her a custom one and i dont think they made it tight enough since it squeals bad when its cold in the winter. so if i can get a belt that is the correct length and that fix it would be great. i hadnt thought about the belt being the issue.

You would need to check out the crank sensor wiring to make sure it would not interfere with the new belt routing.

well its already roughted that way but its not as tight as it should be bc it was a custom made to that length (now why the guy didnt just try to find one in the proper length i dont know). her ac compressor locked up about a year or two ago so they just bypassed it and it squeals when cold and slips above 4k from waht i understand.

ok that means hers has been placed away from the belt. and not to change the subject of the thread, but after we have driven it for a while the idle gets higher then normal, could that just be the tps going bad?

Doesn't sound like an alternator issue. Maybe a voltage regulator or a belt thats slipping. The alternator on the these suck. I had to do it on my 98 and I had to drop the subfame to get it out.

Not Sure What the Trick is!

but I had to have the alternator and battery replaced on my 97 when they failed on a trip. It only took the garage that I was towed to about 2 hours to do. I'm sure they have not seen a SHO before.
