I have been looking at two different SHOs that are for sale near me. One is a 2010 with 130,*** miles which looks to be in pretty good shape. The other is a 2011 with 15x,*** miles and apears to have an aftermarket tuner, not sure which one, and some after market wheels, which I'm not fond of. They both are black, the 2010 has the black and peanut butter brown interior while the 2011 has the all black interior.

My questions are:

What should I look out for in a relatively high mile SHO?

How difficult/expensive is it to change out the grille to a mid model refreshed SHO? Same with the quarter panel louvers, head lights, and the LED tail lights? Are they plug and play?

How much do the refreshed wheels go for?

Thanks in advance.

Each generation of these latest SHOs have their own specific issues. You can search on this forum for these issues. Just as an example, the knock sensor wiring harness has fraying issues in the earliest editions that lead to problems, but that is only one of many.

There are Technical Service bulletins listed in threads that point you to the issues. Also become familiar with all the recalls and they are on lists as well.

Get the service records of any SHO that you are interested in. Oil changes and synthetic oil are very important for the turbos.

Expensive problem areas are: Turbos, Transfer Case units, water pumps, and high pressure fuel pump.

All the things you want to mod will be expensive, unless you are modifying the original parts, such as the grill. There are very few companies turning out aftermarket parts for these car as they are not considered a high volume car.

The 2011 seems like less of a deal, unless there is more to it than you are describing.

Looks like highway driven cars so that is the good part. Sperold hss an excellent synopsis of the needs/possibilities.

You will likely need to do all the fluids and spark plugs at a minimum. Hopefully there are no issues with oil in the turbo piping or intercooler. Any oil leaks, particularly the ptu/turbos, could mean a big bill. All out of pocket at this mileage. So price accordingly.

Are there no 2013+ in your area? I would consider driving a distance for the right car.

Former: 1995 ATX, 1992 MTX

Thanks guys. I found a 2013 that is relatively close to me that I'm going to check out. It has 106,*** miles on it, but the carfax shows that the regular maintenance was performed every 3-5k, and all done by a Ford dealership. I'm going to check the car out tomorrow and if I like what I see I'll have the Ford dealer that serviced the car either fax or email me the service records so I can review them. The car has been in an accident but if the damage has been repaired well then I'm not too worried about it, but will try to use it to bring the price down.

No idea what your budget is, nor your intended use for the vehicle. If it is going to be a daily driver, I would not buy anything with that kind of mileage. You can get a 2013 or newer with a lot fewer miles for ~ $20k or less. That's where I'd look.

My budget is around $13k. This one is listed for $14k. It's intended use is a daily driver, maybe 12k a year while I work on a project car.

I don't mean to come across as a dick, but if you have $13k for a daily driver, I don't think a SHO is a good choice.

No, my budget is $13k for a daily. I found a couple of SHOs that fit into my budget that peaked my interest so I came on here to ask a couple of questions about them.

Where are you located? I might be able to find you some better options.

Central KY. I've got a couple of other vehicles I've been looking at, but haven't made a decision just yet.
