Looking at getting a used 2011 sho with 134k on it for around 7k

Looking at buying a 2011 with 134k on it, first 90k it was a fleet car driven by one lady and after that it ended up getting bought at the dealership by the current owner who was a ford master tech at said dealer for cheap because the dealership thought it needed a new engine but the guy replaced the Water pump, timing chains and guides, VCT sensors, phasers , vcts, solenoids and maybe other front of engine parts and got it working fine. After the current owner got it, it was taken care of very nicely and driven by his wife until recently he said that the oil pressure light came on twice in the same month then said it was fine after he replaced the oil pressure switch and it hasn't gone off since. Car also had no mechanical problems when I took it for a test drive. Should I pull the trigger on it?

How much of a mechanic are you? If you can turn a wrench and work on it then go for it. My taste of effort and having to pull the top and front off the engine I would back away. Too much debt you are taking on - with many fronts, cash and time.

I have to say when the backstory of a car starts with a little old lady took it shopping, I get a visceral recoil.

I promise you, I want you to enjoy and experience a sleeper car of renown history.

Well I mean the story of the first owner wasn't really that a little old lady drove it the current owner admitted that the car wasn't taken care of the absolute best during that time and when he got it the engine had a rattling noise (why the dealer thought it needed a new engine) and after he fixed it it was a1 until the cheap pressure switch that the first owner put on started sending the dummy light on for the oil pressure light (so no actual oil pressure problem supposedly) and by time he figured there was no problem with the car the wife already got a new SUV. I don't mean to knock your take I just wanted to offer more info on the car's situation since I didn't fully detail everything in the first post.

The water pump at that age and mileage is good - its the most costly item that needs to be addressed near or around the 100K mark. $7K sounds like a good price - now answer this - how much under Blue Book is that price? Just know this - bad maintenance on these cars are a killer - PTU, Ford states - no need to service - so with 140K has it been ever? Have you pulled the report - what was the freq of oil changes - brake fluid changes - replacement of coolant - and so on and so forth.

Start here and research based on these "best practices" what you might be in for? Turbos and oil service lines could be leaking, have you checked?

From that story, its best to walk away. You can find one for 2k$ more and save 10k$ in the long run. Also not fun when they sit, thats when all the electrical gremlins show up

I have one...Pic in profile.
Mine just turned 140K, and I'm having a slight "shudder" at the moment.
But I bought it with 78K years ago. And considering all the fun I've had drivin it, I've decided to keep it for now and replace all the stuff that's recommended over time.
Mine is stock mechanically. But the nice wheels, Audison stereo system, Viper alarm n remote start, etc...
That helped in making the decision to keep it.
I do have some questions, but I'll bring em up on a diff thread.
Bottom line, do what yer heart tells ya on buyin or not.

Alright so first, thank you so much for helping me learn about these cars more because I had no idea about a couple of those things and I was able to ask the owner a few more questions regarding the vehicle and learn more about them.

So the PTU was only changed once at 90k miles(yikes) which was when the current owner replaced a whole bunch of stuff though fortunately, the car was driven as a "regular" car by the wife of the guy that owns it, and the previous owner from my understanding so I'm not really worried about it being abused since it seemed to be mechanically sound when I drove it. Maintenance seems to be a little less than optimal from the first owner but nothing horrible and the current owner took great care of it. We plan on offering the guy 7k for it because it's going to need new tires pretty much as soon as I drive it home and 7k is basically the KBB value of the car. I plan on going down to see the car again in the next day or so, so I'll check turbos, service lines, and probably the charge piping too for possible boost leaks.

The other thing that I did not see mentioned is that since it was not cared for really well by the first owner, and since it already has 134k miles on it, there is a very good chance it will need turbos in the next 15-20k miles. That will be expensive even if you do it yourself. Maintenance is the most important thing on these EcoBoost engines - they need oil changes religiously with top quality oil. If you cannot find documentation of that, I would agree with the others that suggest moving along to another option.

If you don't mind a little traveling, there's a girl with a 2013 with 136k miles for sale in columbus ohio. Water pump timing chain and both turbos recently replaced, she is selling it for 9K.

Good repairs but focus on the fluid changes as posted above. Transmission, PTU (This is the big one!) and RDU.

Do you mean the entire PTU was replaced at 90K or was it serviced at 90K? Was not sure?

As posted above are you good with DIY? These cars are well documented on this forum with many repair threads including pictures.

Went through the same issue(s) with my 2012 SHO 120k before it got totaled last month. These are awesome vehicles and if you have never owned one, you need to at least once in your life. "Oil Pressure Switch" issues are a long time Ford issue and I would not be concerned about that. However, the work he has recently completed with the timing chain and phasers is an EXTREMELY expensive service that you won't have to worry about for another 90k. As far as his asking price, I just replaced my 2012 with a 2011 with 90k and has every factory option. It is Kona Blue Metallic with a clean CarFax and a "one owner" SHO from Fort Myers Florida and I paid around 9k total for it, if that helps you at all. Depending on his asking price, I would have absolutely no issue with that SHO. I hope this helps. It's just one SHO owners opinion. Cliff

I just inherited one 2011 it got 122k my mom changed oil good didn't run it hard. It performs well drives like a new car good and tight no rattles and that initial acceleration is freaking awesome all cars need maintenance when older but if I were you I'd take a chance on that car these are good vehicles long as some young kid hasn't got a hold of it should be a good rig
