Hey guys,

So I went to the track yesterday and had another personal best with 12.95... The trap speed seemed to be underestimated in the lane I was because I have been running around 108mph all night but for my best time, it only indicated 105.4mph even though my 1/8 indicated a best of 8.28 at 83.01 which suggests that my trap speed should have been around 108.5mph.:woo-hoo:

Anyways, I wanted to give my opinion on the stage 4+ that Rick had given me after I had the 11-5-6 TSB performed about three weeks ago (I have been driving stage 4+ since). He asked me to give my comments :

Stage 4+ holds boost longer than stage 4 and has torque management. So, it feels smoother in the gear shifts, not as hard as stage 4, it pulls better during acceleration, smoother as well power does feels more sustained.
However, when cruising and doing a WOT, the torque management translates into an hesitation before the kickdown... especially compared to stage 4. But when fully WOT from a stop, the gear shifts are not hesitating at all, in fact it chirps in second gear and with my old tires, I think it could almost chirp third as well!

At the track, I compared back to back the stage 4 with stage 4+ and I can tell for a fact that 4+ will give you an extra 1 or 2mph at the end of the 1/4 mile and probably a 0.1 sec less as well.

The conditions were not very good yesterday (it had rained a little bit around 6pm and it rained again around 10pm, so I guess it was humid and temps were around 75-77F between 7pm and 10pm. Even with those factors, stage 4+ has contributed to obtain my best results so far...

That said, I can only say that stage 4+ is better than stage 4, but my best time is also due to 2 other changes since last best of 12.984 (when conditions were much better).

1 ) Since then, I had my wheels realigned (still waiting for the camber bolts)... When I noticed my tires were wearing prematurely on the inside, I went to see a specialist and he told me that my wheels were not only sitting with too much «vertical angle, the up inside and bottom outside», but the real reason of the premature wear on the inside was due to the fact that my wheels were opened in a V shape (back of the tire inside and front outside)... So, my car was driving like penguins feet!

2 ) I am now running synthetic oil Royal purple 5W30

So it is hard to tell what of those factors contributed the most to obtain my personal best, but I am confident that in September, I should see the 12.7ish.

So, Rick and LMS, you did a very good job with stage 4+, thank you again!:thankyou:

Steve

How did your 60 ft's compare?

Have you considered adding Firestone Air Bags to rear springs like Darreli?
This would help plant your front tires even more and allow you to launch at slightly higher RPM. (In theory at least)... LOL I am adding them to the Brick today.

Have a somewhat interesting comparison 1/8 mi time. Last winter at Immokalee Raceway (1/8 mi track) my 08' G8 turned an 8.326 @ 86.2 MPH. Never could get the 60 ft time under 2. with 285 Bridgestones. Engine internals are stock on it, but does have headers, CAI & tune. Weighs only 4K, so is somewhat lighter than SHO.

You are definitely on the right track in terms of your mods... etc.!

Good going Steve, great times......Did you not get the alignment after the H&R install? -- That alignment seems way out and probably slowed you (tho minimally).

Will be nice to get that alignment on spec and track conditions more favourable -- Your times should improve even more.

Thanks for sharing and keeping us in the loop.

My 60 ft are better, for my three runs under 13's, with stage 4+, my 60ft were :
1.862 (12.976 at 108.15)
1.874 (12.997 at 107.99)
1.896 (12.958 at 105.40... but as stated should be more than 108)
That compares to the two runs with stage 4 (same lane as the two up there, the only run I did in the other lane was when I had my best E.T.) :
1.903 (13.067 at 105.74)
1.887 (13.073 at 104.69)
So the stage 4+ really seem to give better trap speed... Just to give you an idea, the last time on stage 4, with better conditions, I was getting between 107 and 109 all the runs... So, yesterday, with better alignment and synthetic oil, stage 4 was only 104-105... So being able to get 108 on stage 4+ is really promising!
Cheers!
And in terms of air bags, good idea, but probably next year... wifey and wallet start to find it a bit too much (I still need to buy mags and winter tires around 2,000$!, new brake pads etc. 1,000$)...

No, I was relying on the guy (tuner) that did the install. I had recommended the use of camber bolts, but he told me that he did not need them, so I presumed he had performed an alignment... Anyways, that is in the past and I learned from it... at a good cost (need new tires soon only after 5K miles!)...

Thanks,

But, the rear tires are nowhere close as worn as the front, but still would need an adjustment with camber bolts... But defenitly an alignment after springs is a must!

BTW, have you, Mike or anyone else, been running stage 4+? Do you share the same feedback?

But Mike, we still never have heard about your car performances...:zoom:
When was the last time you went to the drag? Would you mind sharing with us?
I sure would love to hear what your car can do, and it is not the first time I ask...:munch:

Cheers!

Now, back to the subject of the thread, who else has tried stage 4+? Any comments?

I got stage 4+ today. Trying to decide if I should flash it or not..... I'm a little nervous running it with 93. It sounds like it's the same as stage 4, but this one has torque management.

wasn't it yesterday that you wanted to keep it stock? What a night can make lol!
Stage4+ has torque management, but also holds boost longer... It is the best of the two worlds, smoother than stage 4 but faster at the same time... The only thing is that with torque management you will feel hesitation for kick downs, but it doesn't hesitate between gear shifts. Try it and I assure you you won't want to return to stock for sure.
Let me know!
Cheers Bill,
Steve

Yeah I flashed to stage 2 yesterday. I was hesitant because the car was driving so much better with the TSB done, but it still drives good with stage 2. I will probably hold off on stage 4 unless I go to the track.

Just loaded stage 4+ yesterday after running stage 3 for the last 2 months. I agree with you on your post. Hope to get to the track next week, I can tell already there will improvements. Just need say that Rick at Livernois is probably one of the greatest people to work with that I have ever met. Thank you Livernois!

Anyone else cooling fan run nonstop since this tune, once warmed up? Don't think it's been over 60 out since I installed.

I wouldn't say non stop, but it certainly runs more often and longer than before... But since the engine and turbos seem to warm up quite fast, I thought that was I good thing... BTW, is it taking a lot of power to run the cooling fan. My question is more related to the drag... If it is like Air conditioning, I would like to have the possibility to turn it off for a run and turn it back right after...

Yes my fan is running since 4+ also. Should we worry? Temp. gage in the car is exactly were its always has been so its in an effort to maintaine. Why so much more fan? Is it something in the program to turn on or are generating that much more heat?

I sent Rick an email yesterday asking to get an updated Stage 4+ and it took him almost 10 minutes to respond with the file attached. I am blown away by the service level at Livernois. Spectacular!!!

That said, I am heading out to the track this evening to see if I can better my 13.3. That time was with the Stage 3/93.

How about it Showgun / Colin...coming to the track tonight? Tell her you have to work late...very late. LOL

I wish I was closer toyour place guys, you would have a buddy in me! I think you should see 13.1 on oct 93 with stage 4+ based on the 13.3 if weather is similar.
good luck and keep us posted and post your time in Top Ten quickest thread so that Sam can add you to the list.

Cheers!

Steve

P.S. What other mods, if any, do you have on your car?
