Is the windstorm intake fixed of what faults it had with heat?

They were not "faults". What you are referring to is that some clients preferred to have a thicker and larger blade of insulation on top of the intake's housing so that the sealing to the hood liner was a bit more positive.

We did address this concern and have included a larger blade of insulation to go on your new intake housing. :thumb:

There are definite performance gains. Even though the EcoBoost intake systems are designed to be a speed density system there are ways that you can increase power. It is a similar principle to a premium aftermarket exhaust system, for example. Air just like water and electricity is lazy, it like the path of least resistance. For our tubing and housings we ensure that there are no kinks, sharp bends or turns and definitely no places that might seep or impede air flow. We have displayed (on this forum) the fact that our CAI is a power producer. There have been several members that have made the switch from well known or the new hot CAI's to ours after we have put their SHO up on our dyno and proven that we can make more wheel power. There have been quite a few guys that could not believe that our Windstorm CAI in some cases made OVER 20 WHEEL HP MORE than the CAI that they came in with.

We also (unlike several well-known systems) ensure that our filtration media is DRY, not oiled and made to promote an even, clean and free flow of cool air into your intake system. An oiled filter can cause several issues, especially in a high or higher performing vehicle. Many of those issues might not be caught until they lend to creating a large and expensive repair. We also do not attempt to keep our hand in your pocket with recharge kits. A 5G bucket, simple green and some good ol' H2O will do the trick! Do we have cleaners and like that for the guy who is more like me, and just wants to spray on a cleaner and drive, of course.

From our CAI? No, you do not need a tune in order to run it. Caveat, you will see little to no gains from bolt ons without tuning for those mods.

*Here is a little footnote to that above post...I didn't want to convolute my response with extra info.*

The EcoBoost platforms have what is called a speed density intake system. The goal of speed density is to accurately predict the amount of air ingested by an engine during the induction stroke. This information is then used to calculate how much fuel needs to be provided and may also be used for determining an appropriate amount of ignition advance.
Speed-Density has many things going for it:
  • Pressure sensors do not pose any restriction to the flow of air into the engine, unlike a MAF sensor.
  • MAP sensors respond to changing conditions very quickly, enabling it to have fairly good transient response especially compared to Mass-Air-Flow
  • Compared to a carburetor, it allows much more control over the mixture at different engine loads
  • Simplicity: all the sensors required are extremely reliable.

Good to know, sho311. Usually the CAIs (Airaid/K&N/etc) are of no detriment. Roush being a longtime performance name in Ford circles one would have thought would have been neutral to positive effect.

^Maggs, I was having a bad power surge under low RPM almost like a bucking forward and back under load. Now I didn't have this problem until the temp in Arizona got over 95 everyday and with 60% humidity outside. The dealer took it off I didn't think that was the problem...I was wrong, car MOVES!!! I'm going to put it back on in a few months around October to test my theory. From what my little brain can understand is that there was too much of a temp change going on somewhere inside the engine inside the intercooler that's making things all out of wack. The stock airbox in AZ seems to works better during summer months, keeping the hot air separate from the intake and the stock design actually works well for normal tunes. I've seen CAIs that have insulation and other ways to keep it (cooler) I might look into one this next winter. Either way my car is back! TDI Golf got in the way dropped the hammer in S mode before I knew it I was going 50 to 115 in the blink of a eye. Ooops

I know how your feel. SCT was a good starting point for a beginner they make a good tuner the X4. The most important is the company that makes your tune file. (unleashed,torrie,5star) among others. I had 5 star and they were not able to do a 3bar map tune for me. Not saying thats a bad thing but I want to run the 3bar sensor I have already. LMS has tuned the most ecoboost vehicles overall and they have the tune that I need so on the 1st I will drop the 625 after tax and get the tune for those reasons. I also like the dedicated server you download from LMS emailing files for your really expensive SHO is a bad idea IMO. Do your homework before you order upgrades to make sure the tuning company can do it, most can not sure why 5 star is lazy?

Thanks for the feedback. I'll consider all options but I'm leaning towards LMS. But who knows how I'll feel next week. Lol. I'm very protective of my sho. Every time I'm ready to pull the trigger I bail out. Lmao
