What are the signs of a worn out clutch cable?

On mine it was sticking slightly even with no load. I disconnected it from the transmission and the clutch pedal, then slid the cable in and out. Not smooth at all and had a few very rough spots. It also was also about 3/8" longer than the new one I picked up.

This one had about 208K miles on it with a mix of city and highway miles.

Mine seems spongy with a little squeak/bind in the first inch or so of pedal depression. There is no chatter or binding when pushing in or letting out the clutch when driving and shifts are good (i need to change the atf in it though)
