My 91 SHO is leaking water I'm assuming down through the cowling into my passenger side footwell. Has anyone had this problem and how do you fix it. This problem just started about a month ago.

Thanks in advance

is it water or coolant? Best way to tell is to get some on your fingers and smell it. If it's coolant, your heater core's gone to ****. have fun! :thumb:

Welcome to the board Dale.

They are right. If you look around here, someone (I can't remember who) did an excellent write up (with pictures) on how to replace your heater core.

As a side note, put in a new Blend Door Actuator (if it's still the stock one) while you are in there because when you get done doing the heater core job, you won't want to take the dash out again for a long time. :thumb:

It is not the heater core, I replaced it this past winter. It wasn't too bad, took about 2.5 hours. I don't believe it is the condensation tube off the evaporator either because it is draining. The footwell becomes wet after the car sits outside in the rain. Anyone have this problem?

Thanks for the suggestions!

Yes I have this problem. I had my windsheild replaced and it started after that. I thought/think the installers didn't use enough sealant when putting the windsheild in?
Fortunately we haven't been getting much rain up here...

It's not the drain or the heater core. More than likely, your cowl has filled up with water, and it's spilling over the HVAC intake and ending up in your passenger footwell. Remove your wipers, and then the wiper cowl covers. To the far right (passenger side), there is a drain hole that is likely clogged up. Unclog it (usually it's leaves that does this), and you should be golden.

This same thing happened to my when I had my 89 Taurus GL, only it happened during a torrential (like 3" of rain in a hour torrential  ) rain storm, and in the morning I went down to my car only to find 4" or so of standing water on the passenger side of the car. Fun times.

You changed a heater core in 2.5 hours?
Wow, I just reread that. :oogle:

Did the whole block come out to help you with that core? Last time I did one in a Taurus, it took me almost 9 hours of labor to get it done. And more than a few

Yep, no joke, I just undid the A/C and heater core lines running from the engine bay into the car, removed the bolts holding the steering column, and let it sit on the drivers seat, removed the 8 -10 screws actually holding the entire dash in the car, rotated the dash back and accessed the heater core from the passenger side door, it was a little tight but not too bad.

The main factor is a good friend of mine used to work at Ford and he showed me the quick and dirty way to do it.

If this is how they do it then why do they charge 7 hours labor? And if that way works do a writeup please.
