not from the pan or cooler lines but from the rubber cover above and to drivers side of the crankcase drain . i am stumped 'cuz i didnt touch it . otherwise drain /filter/flush/fill went without a hitch . 15 qts mercon v for the flush put it just below full mark after 15 miles of driving . what happened ?

i know its kind of opposite to the area you described, but could you be leaking from the seal around the VSS? im not too familiar with the top of the trans so maybe someone else can give a better idea but i know its happened to some people before. let us know what you find.

well after allowing 8 hrs to cool down , checking to make sure the fluid level was in the range - which it was ? - i drove around for an hour . headbang ... no leak ? let cool down for 30 minutes started up , ran thru the gears , put in park checked level and it still is right where it is supposed to be . so  i am chalking this one to overfill and or incorrect dipstick . to ease my conscience - does anyone have the ford p# for the '99 v8 sho dipstick ? any one have an answer to why overfilling would drip out the inspection cover and not the transaxle vent ?

so wait a minute, you filled it full when it was cold? (that sounds like what you said) if thats the case then it sounds like thats your problem because youre suppose to check the level when it is warm and add more accordingly. as far as why it would leak out one area and not the other im sorry i cant help you more there. good luck.

no not full cold ! in the cross hatch when warmed up . i let it sit over night to make sure everything was checked from dead cold then warmed up ( and allowing my hair regrowth to kick in - not to mention the bruising to subside ! ) and after 2 days still no repeat of this fiasco . coluld someone please jot down the part # on their v8 tranny dipstick and post here for us ? i would like to double check to make sure my used car dealer didin't swap it by mistake . thanks , Rick
