Well, pictures will be forthcoming, but it ain't good. I had approx. 20 degrees of excess slop in the last timing gear, JB Weld didn't hold.

The 89 finally let go at a busy intersection in Worcester yesterday.

The crank's worn pretty bad now and the dampener showed wear this time, so we're going to try one last thing before replacing the engine / crankshaft - welding the new gear / spacer disc / dampener all together (obviously without using timing covers). I am not hopeful, but what the ****, we'll give it a shot.

Thanks to Kirk for the weld assist later on today, & the use of the 92 last night since my 91 isn't up yet.

Couldn't you theoretically put some filler weld on the crank and dremel it down to take up slop in the damaged keyway? I did this before on a kart that had a damaged axle. It worked for me anyway. Something you could possibly try.

Did that on attempt #2(?) Doug. Filled the worn area. It didn't adhere to the crank.

Welded the crank to the retainer disc to the dampener to the crank / crankbolt. It's holding so far, but there is a burn-through on the disc that is cutting the T-Belt. We'll see if the belt continues to wear or if it stays intact for the next month. Covers are off, and of course I get 12" of snow forecast for today. :)

This reminds me of a Capri that a friend bought many moons ago. We could not get that thing timed right to save our life. Come to find out that the previous owner brazed the harmonic balancer onto the crank and didn't line it up right. Needless to say, we got it running and he sold it again.

Good luck with that Fred. Keep us informed.

HAHAHAHAHA!

Kurt! You should have seen me trying to find the black ID mark & (attempted) drill dimple on the disc & crank gear I had made to time the damn thing. What a bummer. Kirk asked me, "do you think you have it close?" I'm like, "it's where it's SUPPOSED to be. If it's off, I'm taking a torch to the f'ing thing...I ain't messin' with it." :)

Made it 100+ miles now, through 14" snowfall. I probably have about 1/2" of timing belt left, but hey, can't have everything. :)
