this is the 92 has 140K on the clock.......started the other day there was a extreamlly faint knock could barelly hear it even with the hood poped........now today when drivin around it will occasionally get fairlly loud.......its there at idle not to overlly loud but its there............and it "usally" comes back while drivin around 2,500 RPMs or so, but it dont do it all the time

my first instinct was the rod bearins, but i tried the stethascope trick and on the intake i hear nothin out of the ordinary on the far left side of the front valve cover u can hear a extreamlly fiant tick........but on the far rite of the cover (chain area) theres a loud knock tick sound

and the engine is still runnin and idelin fine other than the knock (kinda sounds like metal on metal).........and the oil lites not on or flashin

chain tensioners or could this still b the rod bearins?????

First, check the butterflies by unplugging the vacuum line on the black cylinder thing on the intake. After you remove the line, if it doesn't make any noise, there's no need to concern about it.

I've said it before to someone else on here... when mine was ticking (rod bearing) it traveled up thru the motor. I thought I had a bad tensioner.. was almost certian of it.. but it was indeed a rod bearing.

I'd really sugguest replacing them if they haven't been done in the last 45k miles or more... if you don't know when the last time was... I'd do them for sure.. 140-160 is about the time they spin...

You have to hook it back up before you start driving it. It was just for the check. Now, that loud knock is fine. You don't have to worry about it anymore. It's just butterflies flapping, but you said there's still a faint knock. I'd replace rod bearings if you haven't replaced them recently just to make sure. My car had a little knocking when it was cold before I bought it. The pre-owner suggested that I should change rod bearings. I did the job and 1 of them was getting bad. Haha. There is my little story. Anyways, change the rod bearing just in case!
