Can an 89 be modified to use a keyless enty system? Does it go together with the illuminated entry system? Thanks in advance.

nope. I was hoping to do with the little black box in the drivers side part of the trunk with all the wires coming out of the connector that its connected to. I believe thats the illuminated entry module.

IIRC, a few members have tried to trace the wires, but couldnt figure them out as they got closer to the driver seat....

IMHO, i would just go out and have an aftermaket installed.... less trouble... and you get a remote..

Someone here did a complete retrofit a while back. You need the buttons, the door wiring, the chassis wiring back to the the module in the trunk and the module itself. If I were doing it I would use a module from a '93 up so I could have the key fob remotes also.

wow. I can get my hands on the module, but the wiring? I think I will now think twice about this. I need to fix a couple of other things before I do that. Thanks for the info.

Yes, all you need is a '93+ keyless entry module, the connectors for the module with 8 or so inches of wire to work with, and a remote key fob. It's a simple splice job with a few extra wires to run if you want the lights to flash and the horn to chirp. I have a spreadsheet around here somewhere that has all the details. I'll send it to you when I find it.
