Well my new to me 13' SHO keypad wasn't working correctly and had to be replaced. The person I bought it from paid for the part since they advertised it as needing nothing and as brand new. The dealership wanted $325 labor to install this and I thought what a rip off. Well after doing it myself I was thinking that may not have been to bad a deal lol.

This wouldn't have been as bad if I had known that the door panel has two hidden screws. My wifes 13' explorer sport does not have these as we had to have the windows replaced recently due to some POS breaking them to steal what they thought was her pocket book which was really just a lunch bag that looks like a pocket book.

If you ever need this done I can tell you that the window molding (chrome one) needs to be removed to get the connector inserted. The only way to get this routed was between the door frame and window. The only issue is I don't know how to do this without breaking the tabs on the window trim piece. So now I either need new tabs or a whole new window trim. There may be a trick to removing this piece but as careful as I could be they broke.

Overall it wasn't too bad just time consuming as I took my time trying to do it correctly and not break anything. Other than the window molding tabs everything else went fine. At least now I can lock my key in and be able to use the keypad to get in. BTW with parts and labor the local FORD dealer wanted almost $600.00 to replace this as the car was just over 1K over warranty. The previous owner found the part online for $175 and I installed it with only minor scrapes and a few cuss words thrown out into the atmosphere.

yeah, its a pita as you have to basically disassemble the whole door. we get a lot of the Lincoln lease returns back with bad keypads, and its a good thing they are still under warranty at that point...

Mine is broken too and I checked the effort in the workshop manual - after that I decided that the handsfree keyless opening is good enough ;)

For everyone who wants to replace it anyway, this is the part number - around 150$

So I don't mean to jack the thread. But I have a different problem with the same thing...I don't know the code. I bought my car used and can't find the code for the door. How do I find it? Can I make a new code?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

No, you cant make a new one that one stays embedded in the ECU. There is a sticker on the control module which is located (above/left) of the brake pedal which has the factory code. There is a youtube video that shows
where it is.

And if you have a 13+ model it is even easier:

Stick the first key in the ignition and cycle it on and off
Remove it and stick the second key in the ignition and turn it on
Now the message center should show you the factory key.

for most of these cars, there is not a visible sticker with the code on it, you need to take it to the dealer to get them to read it off the box.

What if you have push button start?

This trick doesn't work with push start. In this case you try to find the barcode as you describe or drive to the next Ford dealer. They can read out the PIN using IDS, takes 5-10 minutes

Both my Flex and SHO have the code on the control module, driver's side, right under the dash. No need to go to the dealer.

I have the keypad (CG1Z5420555CA) on order and will be replacing mine very soon. Where are the two hidden screws in the door panel located? Is it the lower window molding (AG1Z5421453AA) that needs to be taken out or do both the upper and lower trim pieces around the window need to be taken out?

It must be pretty common, when I bought my used 2012 it was not working ether. Funny story the salesmen didn't realize it was broke because he had the key in his pocket when he typed the code in, he (and I) didn't know if you had the key in your pocket all you had to do is touch the pad. When I got home I started playing around with it and figured out is was broke. When I took it back, I spend 15 minutes trying to explaining how it works and why it was broke. I also had to explain the PP option to him but that's another story. Anyway I kind of backed them into fixing it since they the told me it worked when I bought the car. Its still a little temperamental and doesn't work at all when its wet. Anyway I am pretty sure I will out last the replacement also. Oh Well.
