Nothing to grab onto, the break is flush with the lock.

How do I get the key out? Or is this locksmith time for my '89?

Assuming you can get in the other door, it is not that hard to remove the lock assembly once the door is open. In order to see what is going on inside the door panel, you probably want to remove the door panel. Then pull the black metal bracket holding the lock assembly in place. You have to disconnect the lock assembly from the rods and then the lock comes out.

Can you drill into the key with a really small drill bit and then try pulling it out or using some super glue?

Or maybe one of those really strong magnets and a small steel rod

I would not try drilling, as you will likely push the key further into the lock and then never get it out.

I think the superglue idea is worth a try. Just don't glue the key into the lock...

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I appreciate the help. Unfortunately it turned out that my spare key only worked the doors, and not the ignition (ignition cylinder was replaced years ago with a not-exact match). This left me stuck in my office parking lot. Had to call a mobile locksmith to remove the key.

The locksmith used these tools to remove, see video: Remove broken key from a car Lock. I ordered myself a set.

The problem is that for my key, the first cut nearest the key's shoulder is only 5mm wide and so breaks yearly. I should look into replacing the ignition and both door locks, provided I can first see what my new key looks like.

I had a similar issue with stuck key but only in the front door. Locksmith i called told me some tips next time i could use, they might help a guy who will read this thread: You will need tweezers or other metal thin object(multi-tool, for example) that you can use to get your key off the lock. If there is no grip or you cant pull it out, put end of the tweezers on a keyhole and gently rotate it untill a key will be in a position you put it. You might try to lubricate a lock with WD40 and try a magnet if you dont have a grip and a key is in a position. When you turn a key in a place where you put it in a magnet could do a favour of getting it out a bit for a better grip. But be careful - when lock inside gets damaged you wont be able to do anything. And IMO its better to leave this work to proffesionals because key extraction is far less expensive than to remove a whole lock you broke trying to get a key
