Why you are there check clearance between the tappets and cams.

Intake: 0.15-0.25 mm (0.006-0.01 in)
Exhaust: 0.360-0.460 mm (0.0142-0.0181 in)

However. As you noted earlier, unless the can is fubared, a few lobes won't move separately of others. The vct system would affect the whole bank.

Yea im not sure anymore, never was getting codes for vvt but i do go over 10k on oil before changing it. I got probly 2k on oil now and ill change the vvt sensor tomorrow and do an oil change also and go from there. I only use mobil 1 also. But im sure the vvt is clogged or dirty because the rest of the engine had heavy oil gunk in it. Worth a shot, im running out of ideas to fix figure out this misfire on my own

I got the valve cover off. Had to get mad at it and yank up on it. It was stuck. Took out the vct solenoid. It didnt look bad or gunky. Ill replace it and do an oil change. Oil does look alittle low now. I guess low oil would affect how the vct operates. Ill check back in when i get it replaced and put back together. Ill watch oil usage also. Hope i didnt do all that work just for a turbo seal but oh well. Gotta learn the engine sooner or later

I run Mobil 1 and I buy it at Walmart. 6 quarts (One 5 quart and One 1 quart) with a K&N oil filter for $36 bucks. I reset my oil life monitor to 50% and change it at 3000 miles or if the oil life monitor hits 5% (whichever is first). Cheap and easy insurance, takes me 20 minutes from start to finish.

Indeed. OCI is still king, no matter the brand of oil.

I agree, I run Mobil 1 in my VW GTI 1.8 T and drive it 500 miles per week usually...I change it every 4000 miles. Have over 210K mile on it, tuned at 19 psi, and still runs hard. I am actually replacing tie rods and front wheel bearings right now...lol.

Im actually pretty sure that a k&n filter or any other type can hurt the turbos on this car because motorcraft has a special silicone valve to hold oil in the filter during startup until it is heated enough to relieve it. Ive never seen it on any other filters. Its used alot in aerospace industry for smaller turbine engines because the thicker cold oil can "hurt" turbine or even car turbos. Thats just what they say. I aint never seen no car blow up from a filter

Yea i check my oil now that its been sitting level in a 70 degree garage all week and its sitting below the "min" hole in the stick. Im sure oil affects the running of the vvt also since its oil pressure maybe the turbos taking oil and whats in the crankcase is maybe not enough. Fedex is takin 3 days on a 1 day delievery and may not even ship to me tomorrow because of icestorm. Ill just put it back together tonite and do an oilchange. Car does smoke alot. Maybe turbo is blowed

I got the car put back together. And yes i checked the rear corner valve cover gasket 6 time. Car is low on oil now that its been sitting and i can check it good. I guess low oil means low oil pressure at low rpm. Maybe messed with the vvt solenoid then when i rev it its fine. Because oil pressure increases. So ill start it up to see if i got it all together. Then ill change the oil. What you guy recommend for high mileage oil. I been getting mobil 1 but now im at 72k and soon be at 75k. Maybe still mobil 1? Rotella i think is the best but i dont know about turbos liking it haha

Got it back together and it ran the same. Rough. Still only showed code 316 and 302. I got oil draining now and ill do filter. 2k on oil in car now and its pretty black. Looks like it does at 10k miles. I guess ill change it 2-3k miles. Just to keep car running strong

Have you checked the turbos and piping to/from them? Pooling oil in the tutbos means new turbo time.

As far as high mileage oils that is an antiquated notion for antiquated cars. Just keep running a quality full synthetic and you will b fine. Only time you would want to use an HM oil is to buy time when an oil leak has already developed.
