Ive been having issues blowing out spark. I had it tuned perfect at 10 psi, with a solid 12 afr and autolite 3923 gapped at .035

Friday night I turned it up to 13 and it started misfiring once the boost rises over 10. Im not sure if I need colder plugs or if the coils arent strong enough. I was running this setup with no issue at the track a couple months ago. Im not sure wether this is due to using COP or what. Its certainly annoying.

Try gapping smaller. It may not be spark blowout if it still does it. I ran 15psi on 3923's with an 035 gap... Almost sounds like a weak coil ersumshit.

Scott was blowing out spark recently and had to gap to something like .028. I occasionally blow out spark, but I plan to tighten the gap. IIRC, I'm at .035 now.

I can not say with certainty what gap I used, but I have not had an issue with 17psi, and occasionally as high as 23psi.

I think I'm only running 13-14 PSI @ 7k RPM currently. Good to know I'm pretty tame... Trying to make this one last.

What COPs are your running? If they are the 'stang ones, reference what plugs and gap they are running F/I and try that.

i dont know if you remember or not but in the COP thread i had mentioned the very high dwell time of the ford COP and i think the stock coilpack has a dwell of about 3.1 or 3.0 ish but the COPs are much higher as i remember reading.. this can be the issue you are having. the tweecer i dont think can change the dwell settings but if it could this might solve your issues

A dsm guy on youtube said you can actually leak spark at the bottom of the boot if the seal is good enough. Going to replace the plugs with a smaller gap and play around with the boots for a bit.

What COPs are your running?

He's running Focus boots, springs and coils I believe. I have Mark VIII coils and Focus springs and boots on mine. Maybe we'll trade to see if there is any difference after the plug change. I have a feeling after doing some research spark could be leaking from below the boots (causing arcing) and the plugs may need to be a smaller gap.

Explain to me again why one would want a COPS setup on a boosted car? I have one coming, but if this /\ /\ is a problem I will pass, as I have never had any issues with the stock setup.

My stock ignition system on my turbo car was also pretty trouble free. It took playing with a few different plugs to find one I really liked though.

You have got to remember that im pretty much the first car to use these with any considerable amount of boost.

Right now they dont seem to be. I also think that is because we havent figured out how to do it correctly. This is trial and error here, so there will be some error. Im going to try some dodge intrepid boots, they fit much tighter on the plug.

Scott, post that video you showed me.

and i respect that, i always like when someone tries something new even when people doubt them.
if it wasent for people doing this we wouldnt get results we need.

personally and i dont mean to push off what i use on you but they chrysler coils should be considered.. the focus guys, who already use a coil pack the same as the SHO, use the chrysler coils with good results boosted even.

considering they got the same coil pack and wasted spark system then that would mean their dwell time would be pretty close to ours stock.

**** they even have proven results showing that they are getting great results with them both stock and under heavy boost.

the dsm guys push them to 40+ psi and no blowout.

like i said im not trying to push on you these coils but people are having good results with them and i want you to be aware of that if it turns out these ford coils are hot enough for you.

with what the others are saying also i do agree the stock coil pack is indeed very good for even a considerable amount of boost before it becomes weak and even then you could always throw a MSD box on there and make the spark hotter.

one of the fastest SHOs on here is running a stock coil pack and MSD box.

sorry just seen that post after i replied..

anyways yes the chrysler boots you speak of are very cheap to get and fit super tight.. actually so much so when i went to install my COPs i had to get a drill bit inside them to hone them out enough to get them on the spark plug properly.

also these boots are good quality. when i got my COPs from the boneyard i grabbed the boots and spring wires inside them and they were in great condition for being off a 02 intrepid.
