Just picked up a 2016

Only had it a week, and I'm absolutely in love. It's a MASSIVE upgrade from my 2007 Subaru Outback Sport. xD

I love how solid and sturdy the car feels. I don't feel like I'm going to die if someone hits me anymore. The interior is fantastic. And the speed... good ****.. WAY faster than I was expecting.

First thing I'm throwing on is some tint since I have the tuxedo black. Next, I need to find out if I can put a subwoofer on the stock sound system (non-Sony) since I had a sub in my Subaru and am very much missing the bass.

I also live in a small(ish) town in Montana, and I've only seen one other person here with a SHO, so it's nice having a vehicle that I don't see everywhere I look (Like the STI).

Welcome. I have a 2016 as well but with the Sony system. I thought all SHO's came with the Sony system? Must have been an option then. I have a single 12 in a ported box and it's perfect. A line output converter should be all you need besides the normal sub install stuff to add it to your system.

I actually thought they all came with the Sony system as well, but it looks like it’s actually part of an upgrade package. Seems weird to me that the highest trim of the Taurus doesn’t come with ALL the bells and whistles, but it’s definitely not a deal-breaker for me. I love the car overall. Is there a line output converter you’d recommend? Is it something I can install myself?

It depends, did you plan on adding the subwoofer yourself or having someone else install it? The point of the converter is to get the signal from the stock system to play it through the sub. Aftermarket radios will already have a plug on the radio to run a wire to the sub, but stock systems don’t. Also installing an aftermarket radio on the Taurus is probably a pain in the *** because you basically have to rip the entire dash apart. It’s not hard to add but you’ll need one to get the signal. I’d have to check which one I have exactly but it’s a fancy LINQ one. I’ve had a super cheap Best Buy LOC before and it’s not worth it (but doable). If you’ve never installed a sub before, it’s not too difficult at all but it helps to have someone on call or with you to help with the install

Yea it must not of come with 401a package. 2016 and up SHO was standard with 400 option package. 401a was standard from 13-15.
They started dumbing down the SHO features and options from 2016 to 2019. Some 2018 and 2019 cars dont have power steering wheel adjuster and more. And non shos got a sho appearance package option in 2019 to use up parts so they look like shos but aint.

Thanks! I’m actually excited about driving again. It’s weird. Driving used to be something I did just to get to and from work. But now I find myself looking for excuses to leave the house. I’ve never been this comfortable in a car before. It’s a perfect fit for me. What SHO are you driving?

I know that feeling! I picked up a 2013 last spring, black on black like yours, with the performance pack. The previous owner blacked out most of the chrome, that i'll touch up after the winter.

Very nice! It seems like there are a ton of after market options for this car. I still can’t decide if I want to do any performance upgrades. I know some simple hardware components and a basic tune will really wake the car up. Just not sure how I feel about a full tank of premium gas every week.

I honestly really love that I don’t see many of these around. It’s like we’ve got our own little club.

yes, there are. You will find this forum very helpful with ideas for what is good and to avoid. Think twice about going for cheaper gas. From what I have read, you may see a difference in performance. Also not sure how many miles you have on it. Consider changing all the fluids including the PTU.

Peetah is correct. Yes it’s just a Taurus but the ecoboost is a performance engine and is not a fan of cheapness. The use of quality oil, fuel, and frequent maintenance goes a long way. To continue your enjoyment for the long run stick to a schedule of ALL fluid changes, especially oil and PTU.

Thanks Zpak. Can't take credit, just passing on what i've learned from this forum. Had all of mine changed and with more advice from a few guys here, got a great deal on a Ford ESP. So even with 101K I feel like i'm well covered. Now if I could just figure out how to make the steering wheel tilt about an inch lower, and move the seat back another inch, I'd be very very happy.

Thank you guys for the advice! Yes, I’ve been hearing a lot about making sure all fluids are well-maintained. I’ve also heard people frequently running into issues getting the PTU fluid changed since Ford dealerships seem to be firm on their stance that it’s a ‘lifetime’ fluid. Have any of you had issues in getting it changed?

Nope, drilled a hole in the case, tapped it, and installed a @Ecoboost_xsport drain plug.

Pryor to that though, I just popped the fill cap and sucked it out. Then pumped the fresh fluid in. The job itself is far less daunting than it seems.

Pryor to that, my local Ford dealer did change it. However, you’re right about many dealers not wanting to take it on. If you have trouble finding a dealer you can seek out smaller local shops.

my local dealer didn't hesitate to change the PTU fluid, car was at 100k so as part of the 100K service, they changed all the fluids and the plugs and convinced me to have them clean the the fuel injectors too.
