the idling thing has been happenign for a while. but on wednesday my car almost stalled a few tiems whiel driving even afterabout 30 misn of highway driving. that has never happend before. yesterday i did the 80mm maf and the lpm and now it does the surging/dropping idle all the time. perhaps i should have driven the car to see if it still did the idling before i put these on it. perhaps i will uninstall the stuff and then drive it stock to see if it does it. as i said before it has been doing this for a while but not as bad as it is now. i hope my 80 mm maf is good, if not how much is a new maf sensor? how much does a new iac valve cost? i am sure it is the original. so i guess i will order a new tps, if not that get a new iac valve . but i will also try the stock airbox/maf w/ no lpm

I wasn't talking about the crank position sensor, I was talking about the CID Cam Identification sensor.....I'm sorry for the confusion.

Pretty easy from what I can remember.....its listed for 60 bucks from SP Motorsports. Not sure what Ford has it for....
I would definately do your TPS and IAC first as these are the most likely but I wanted to share my incident in case its needed.

i didn't wanna read the whole post, but would the O2 sensors do this? my friend's car does it because his O2 sensor is crap and so is his throttle position sensor.

today i went to autozen and bought TPS215. i got hoem to install and i tried takign the old one off. man it was such a bitch. they screws wouldn't budge because they were so rusty and all i did was strip them because all the screwdrivers in my house would not turn the stubborn screws. so i i had to break my old tps and then finally i got the screws out. i replaced with fresh new screws and the new tps and then fired her up. i reset my computer while i was at it too. so i start her up and it is still doing it but then it stopped. i think it was doign it since i just did a computer reset with the lpm, 80mm maf and what not. so then it stops. let it run for a few mins and the drove it and stopped at red lights. all is good so far and it hovers around 1k. so i guess i will find out within the next few days if it works and what not. knock on wood that it does.

but i would liek to say thanks to all with the help diagnosiing that it was most likely my tp.

update. my car still does the jumping idle, especially just after u start it. then it will stop. i will drive today and tomorrow to see what happens make a mental note. i will probably post tomorrow night/wed morning to tell what is happening. it isn't doing the jumpign dile as much but when it hovers are 1k it goes from liek 8800-1100 which isn't really that noticeable.

You know - you may want to consider that your lpm is not programmed correctly. It took 3 attempts and a different programmer until mine was done right - no more bounce.

The bounce wasn't consistant. Some times only 300 rpm - other times as much as 800 rpm (400-1200) Occasionally it would stall out.

Scott,
do you set the TPS to a particular voltage with a meter? I remember setting the TPS on my late 5.0 for .98 volts but when I asked Vadim about this at one time he told me that it wasn't that critical.

Your symptoms are very similar to what I experienced on my '93 ATX when my CID (Camshaft IDentification) sensor went bad. I think it came with a code 214 towards the end of it's life, but it had problems for about a year before I replaced it.

Have you had a bad waterpump replaced recently? Or are you currently driving with a bad waterpump? If so, it may have leaked coolant right onto the CPS (crank sensor). It's a bad design, but that's what happens. Hopefully this is not your problem as it's a bi-atch to change!

Good luck!

ThatSHOkid,

With the LPM out but the 80mm MAF in, it would be very erratic from what I found.
Don't pass judgement on it at that point.
Try the stock MAF and go from there. If you get all sorts of ideas about CPS, CID sensor etc, you may be 'borrowing' trouble.
