Hello SHO people,

I just got a 95 sho in great shape. I had a 92 and 93 many years ago but i need something faster..lol not four doors. Well I have my s2000 93 typhoon (only gm I would own 395 hp)and traded in my honda accord for the SHO. I want to know how good is the jbl system in the car. sounds ok. I want to first hook up the aftermarket CD rca's to the factory amp. can anyone tell me how. The RCA are low volts so it the input to the trunk amp. I did it before in my 93 years ago but forgot. thanks marc thumbs_u

Well I don't think there is a way to properly hook up the RCA's in the aftermarket deck to the factory amp. What you need is the correct wiring harness that will take advantage of the stock amps and wiring.

I myself had a JVC deck with the factory amps powering the factory speakers and it sounded fine. I have now upgraded and am using the JVC deck to power aftermarket speakers and a MTX amp to power a 6.5" JL audio sub in the factory enslosure.

Any good stereo place should have the JBL wiring adaptor you require to hook up your aftermaket deck.

Buy the ford premium sound wiring harness from best buy. Ask them specificly for it because they usually keep it in the back in their installation area, away from the rest of the stuff. Anyway, the small square looking piece is the one you want. ooh btw, While at the mall, pick up 4 RCA connectors from radio shack. At home, solder the rca's into the connector.
This should run the stock amps just fine. If you need any more help, post, and i will give you more details.

when you said RCA did you mean an RCA brand cd player, or RCA type connectors?

Instead of simply soldering on RCA connectors, I suggest using LOC's or Line Out convertors. Speaker Line levels and RCA Line Levels do greatly differ in both voltage and current, so buy not properly converting, u run the risk of damaging any of the involved components.

FWIW, If u add at least a decent aftermarket Head Unit, use the Ford Premium Sound harnesses, in that kit of harnesses, the third harness that most people can't seem to figure out how to use, is the amp bypass harness. Just unplug the two harnesses from the amp, and plug them in accordingly to the harness and its bypassed. Additionally, I mentioned in a previous post that u can cut that harness, and wire in an aftermarket Amplifier right there, and all your speaker connections are already ran to the trunk convienently there for u to tap into them. thumbs_u

Well how about this .....

Install the after market radio, run the RCA's to a 4-channel amp, pickup a JBL amp by-pass harness, cut off the end coming from the radio source, connect to aftermarket amp, plug in the harness going to the speakers and using the factory wires ???

It might sound complex but its all plug and play. And when you go to sell your car ..... you can install everything back to factory specs. Its what I did ... and I hit 131.? for my first time DB Racing. I also had 2 12 inch subs in the trunk. With a lil modifacation to the interior and adjusting hte amps I had to be hitting over 150 by the time I was done. All by still using the factory wires. Email me if you have any questions.

Rickiefrat... thats exactly how I do amp installs on most customers cars that I have coming into the shop. Occasionally there is an off chance they want new wire ran into the doors, but not oftern. Its a quick and easy way to hit all the speaker wires.

The other quick way is to connect the left front speaker wires to the left rear and the right front to the right rear IN THE WIRE HARNESS when wiring up your aftermarket head unit. Then in the rear of the car, run wires from the 4-channel amp to the rear speakers, and run wires from the amp to the rear speaker wires. THis way u are using the factory wires to run from the rear speaker wires to the front doors and connecting up the rear speakers to the amp using new wires. Just another tip for you audio aftermarket sound buffs out there. wink

Rickiefrat, you got pix of your DB Drag system? I assume this was in your SHO... Hitting 150+ with the two twelves in a sealed enclosure or ported? I'd be curious to see your install as well. I'm always more impressed by the install than how loud it is. You and I both know anyone can make it loud, but it takes skill to make it look good and sound good. thumbs_u

thumbs_u Thx !!! The system was ported and lets just say I had NO trunk. A friend that I use to hang with always told me that "if you have a ported box, face the ports 6 inches away from the back of the car so the bass rolls to the front". When I first build the system, I had a amp board up against the rear trunk wall. I had no idea where to place 1200 watts. So SHOtime and myself over the course of months did everything we could to get more bass. When I first went to the DB Racing, the amp board was in place. I had both amps attached to it including the power n' ground. It was big and heavy. ** see pics below **

amp2.jpg

This amp (400watts) controlled the interior speakers.
amp1.jpg

This amp (800watts) controlled the 12's.

Thanks to SHOtime for the pics !!!!! I have other pics but i'll have to upload them.

As you can see the board I used was MDF. Once it was removed and the amps relocated teh bass just rolled into the cabin. I removed the carpet behind the rear seat and made the rear seat able to fold down for ear bleeding bass. boink

Im gonna just tap into my left rear speaker for a signal, as a helpful person told me...and tap into my right rear speaker for the AV, then run everything in my trunk, as usual, 900 watts, and two RF tens...soon to be two Alpine Type R 12's thumbs_u , but i do have a question with that, will the amp then push power into the speakers, and cause them to blow? shrug
