JB weld on exhaust

Anyone use JB weld to patch pin holes in catalytic converters? I know it says not to but maybe that is just one of those pesky legal things?

The temperature is too much for that. I think IIRC the highest temp for JB is 500 Degrees F. The cat's get a lot hotter than that. I've used it to patch an oil pan, but it would melt off a cat.

It work's great on oil pan's. I had to use it with my lowrider. Ran over a big ass rock in the road. I agree with Eric though to hot!!!


A lot of people go with car sound cat's. I think you can still get them?

The toxic fumes from the high temps on the epoxy are also very unpleasant.

Just buy a complete y-pipe from Magnaflow, Catco, etc. Trying to weld in cats on a stock y-pipe sucks, and if you have holes in the cats chances are the piping itself is pretty corroded and will make welding even more difficult if not impossible.

they make exhaust cement.......not to sure who carries it or a price on it

me personally i would take out the cats and run a pipe in place of em

I just got some exhaust cement from AAP that's rated to 2400 degrees F. I patched the hole left by my EGR on the exhaust manifold with JB weld before we realized the stuff melts at 600F. Fortunately, the freeze plug I stuck in the bracket held and didn't blow out but I'd recommend the exhaust goop. It is, fittingly, in the exhaust aisle. It's $6.60.

the exhaust cement works great. get it at any autoparts store, like 5-6 bucks a tube
