Hey guys, I replaced today the rear brake lines and rear calipers in the SHO.

After I drove it in from the city, about 10 miles, I was able to touch the drivers side rear disc with no problem, felt a bit warm, but the passengers side was too hot to touch.

I had this same issue wih the old calipers and brake lines.

Why is it that the drivers side rear brake stays cooler than the passenger side rear brake in my SHO?

If you didnt replace the rubber hoses do it. If you did replace them sounds like the parking brake cable is sticking and pulling the caliper closed on that side.

This is why you don't change the rear brake lines without [first] trouble-shooting the problem. Many here routinely scream, "your rear brake hoses are collapsed . . . ." without the slightest clue what is truly wrong with the brakes or suggesting any trouble-shooting.

WOW, its a good thing you clarified that! I dont know if he could have fixed his car if you didnt! When someone says lines, usually its LINES not HOSES.

yep he said lines not hoses......i bet its the hoses or what others call them "flex lines". i think what he meant to say was the hoses because it would be a bitch to replace the entire hard line unless he cut the damaged or rotted piece out and replaced with a new piece. Years ago my rear passenger would heat up more than my drivers ...so i replaced the entire caliper and flex line. NOT MORE PROBLEMS.

E-brake cable..... The passenger side is bent like a bow pressing the caliper outwards against the rotor. It also has a habbit of getting wedged between the knuckle and strut.

cola - coke - pop - soda

It's called context - how a word, term, or phrase is used.

Funny how others in this thread also got the impression the OP was referring to the flexible brake lines. But that wasn't the intent of my reply - it was that many routinely tell others the problem is the rear "hoses" by default, when there are a number of issues that can cause rear brake problems. Slider pins are a common problem that surface this time of year, as people bring their SHOs out of winter storage or begin driving them much more frequently with the warmer weather. The extended period of sitting allows the pins to corrode and freeze-up. Which is essentialy the same problem when the parking brake cables begin to hang-up.

And as SHOIToff also points out - changing out brake lines is not something that people usually do, much less that they casually do without asking a lot of questions here. There is no ready source of replacement lines other than used brake lines from another vehicle.

What if Tommy's SHO were to go out and spend over a $100 dollars on aftermarket stainless steel brake lines based on your divine wisdom, and it didn't fix the problem ?

Then that would be his choice to upgrade. The hoses should be replaced by now if they are original anyway. They are merely suggestions, I also said the parking brake cable should be checked.

Replacing the L/R section of brake line IS common for northern SHO's. They rust by the proportioning valve from the salt. I have replaced 2 of those lines on 2 of my SHO's when I lived in Michigan. One all the way from the master Cyl back, and one I cut and reflared about half way. You can get the lines and unions you need from ANY auto parts store.

No one can repair a car without being there, all we can do is give suggestions which is what I was doing. But thanks for criticizing me. :thumb:
