I wish someone would have told me that I needed to buy adjustable strut mount plates. Now i cant get a decent alignment. How do these get installed? also what years of gtp's rear contol arms fit the gen 2 sho?

You can cut the strut plate welds and get an adjustment that way as well.

They install like regular mounts.

I believe it is around the 90's and early 2000 GTP's that will work. Though I did find them to be slightly flexible and the Ingalls control arms much more worth it.

On my '95 with Intrax/Koni it has stock mounts but I cut the welds on the strut plates and just run the strut tower plates instead. It's within spec but the both sides are at the end of their travel without hollowing out the bolt holes in the strut tower.

You don't need adjustable mounts for the front.

Yeah, just pop the welds if it hasn't been done already. This can be done pretty non-destructively such that you can hardly tell it was ever welded in the first place.

If you still don't have enough adjustment (although you should), it's not a big deal to enlarge the slots in the tower.

the alignment guy wants to do it to fords spec, so that he or his company aren't sued for excessive tire wear. I have the hardest time with alignment shops, on my fwd turbo chrysler's camber is adjustable, and chrysler desired spec is .03 positive, which makes the car howl and under steer. It has plenty of adjustablity all the way to a full degree negative and I've never had any trouble with tire wear, but the shops always fight me when I tell them I want more camber than the computer says it's suppose to have.

I think the desired spec on the SHO in the front is around 2/3 degree negative, and if the car has been lowered it probably will run closer to a degree, maybe a touch more. I think you'll find it to make driving the car a blast on winding roads, just make sure that both sides are balanced.

The Ford factory manual procedure is to drill the factory welds on the plates.

I have my plates drilled out, and set to full positive, I was still 2.2* negative on the drivers side, and 2.4* negative on the passenger side. I picked up a set of Moog adjustable strut mounts, and I'm now at 1* negative on both sides. While some people have issues with the Ingalls adjustable strut rods, I've had zero. My caster is also now in spec. The Ingalls rear adjustable control arms are 100% worth it as well.

Have you tried drilling the welds (or breaking them with an air chisel and flat blade)? I did this after my Koni/Intrax install and havnt had any problems. If you have and it didnt work then go with the adjustable ones. If you havent then dont knock it till you try it.

ok, so the guy at the alignment shop doesnt know whats he's talking about? all i have to do is break the welds and that can make it adjustable? otherwise i found some kit at napa for $75. So when i call him up to get this fixed what should i say to him?

The ones at napa are the same ones, just more expensive... lol I have them, and true you can just break the welds, but I like em because you can see them.


Reguardless, I just got mine aligned, and after my last 1000 mile trip in the SHO, my front tires are chewed up bad in the front.. this last shop must have set something wrong... Anyone have an "ideal" setup for a lowered SHO?

I have my dead coils cut up front of my Intrax.. so I'm even a little lower... I'm wondering if factory specs work for me... and what it does when they pick the car up and set it down like they do...

Nobody said the guy is wrong. People are only trying to tell you that there is more than one way to do it and the spending money on adjustable plates is not required. You asked for help, on many things, if you don't like the answers and/or don't believe them here, especially when multiple people say the same thing, then don't ask anymore!

Say you want the *** welds broken for the strut towers and have the plates moved.

well i just got off the phone with the guy at the shop and he said he never told me about popping the welds on the strut plates because it will make the car unstable and dangerouus. I believe you guys over him anyday because you guys have had experinece since 1989 and the majority of so called ase certified techs cant figure out the SHO. So im taking my car to a different source, having them break the welds and adjusting that way. Right now my car is at -1.5. so by doing this procedure i should get it to -.66

I'll have to look in the chiltons to see. Thanks guys for clearing this up!!

For the GTP control arms you need the SHONut reducer kit.
