I dont know what the technical term for the snakes are.. However, as far as I know the only way to tell left from right is to set them on the heads and make sure the bolt holes line up.

On a side note..How does one know which secondaries go where...I know they are labled L and R, but which is which?? Is the one labled R the one in the front near the front of the car?

The book refers to the cross over tube which the dis is mounted to, and the 2 plenums as the upper intake manifold. The 6 tubes in the center are called the intake runners, or as some refer to as the snakes.

Left = Front & Right = Rear. All aspects of off the motor ar as you stand in behind of the motor looking at it. The front of the motor is the passanger side.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the front of the motor is the Left bank and the rear is the right bank...

I know that when you order parts for a car, you always refer to the car as if you were sitting in the drivers seat.

And since the transmission is attached to the motor on the driver side of the engine, that would make that the rear of the motor.

You are correct. I had read the opposite. I researched it again and found it to be wrong. Kinda like the spark plug wiring diagram in the Chilton.

Chilton spark plug diagram Bunk.

Oh man,
I'm not believing what I just read. Do you know how much trouble that chilton spark plug firing order had caused me. Complete **** and all of the brand new excitement lost in firing up my rebuild for the first time. I don't know how i figured it out finnaly because it was so long ago. But This is the first time some one else has mentioned it. I tried every thing under the sun to try to get it from back firing and what not. A matter of fact I looked at it the manual the other day and threw my arms up. although I only have 5000 miles on it since 3 years ago, I never had to deal with plugs so it was out of sight out of mind. Any ways, thanks for the confirmation

I think some get crossed up with the description of orientation- yes you refer to the right/left as sitting in the car, but the motor is installed sideways, so just another level of confusion for the 2 hour veteran at AutoZone.

What's the story on the Chiltons manual? I have #26700 that I've been using. What is the correct firing order?

Are you looking for the firing order, or the order the wires go in?

I believe you want the latter...
Engine:
1-2-3
4-5-6

coil pack
5-1
6-2
4-3

Correct Diagram
Engine
1 2 3
4 5 6

Coil
5 1
6 2
4 3

INCORRECT CHILTON DIAGRAM (8251) 26700 Published 1995 Pge 2-6
Engine
1 2 3
4 5 6

Coil
4 3:nut:
6 2:nut:
5 1:nut:

However on page 2-14 they do have the order correct on the coil pack diagram.

Well, since this thread is about the intake, you can wait a few months and you should be able to get an intake off of the new Ford Futura Sprint GT/A Wagon. Its got the same looking (not sure if its exact) intake as the SHO with the visual exception that it doesnt have SHO ingraved in it, its got GT/A on it.

Want a peek? Take a look at the June 06 issue of Car and driver

Yeah, you could do that, or you could save HUNDREDS less and buy it used. I'm guessing that intake costs $1k or so new.

Got a little off topic.

Check ebay, there are a couple up for auction weekly. If I remember correctly they have been going for under $75.
