I just got a complete intake manifold from local junkyard off an 89 SHO
Would like to port & polish & paint but dont know where to start
Could anyone explain to me in detail what all that intails and means?
Thanks, oh I paid $27 for complete intake

$27 sounds pretty fair.

Just my opinion, but I would suggest that if you have the cash, send it to Extrude hone and have them work their magic on the manifold. The extrude hone process forces an abrasive putty through the runners, and will smooth out all bumps and imperfections. It also enlarges the ports very slightly.

If you don't have the money to extrude hone it. Then, the best you can really do is to port match the runners to the heads. You can also work the "Y" area after the throttle body and smooth it out.

I haven't been working with the SHO for too long, so take my advice with a grain of salt and see what others have to say.

Best bet is to pick up a book on porting (or hi-po cylinder heads/engines) - you should be able to find one at Barnes & Noble, or online (amazon). The theory will be the same on porting any intake.

ExtrudeHone - worth the money, if you can afford it.

$27 - cheap! Good find.

IMO - extrude hone is NOT worth $300!
EH only removes very little material-its only advantage is that it does smooth out the inside casting some so they do not get as dirty. you have to gasket match FIRST & major port to match BBB.

Don't the EH runners coupled with BBB add something crazy like 10 WHP to an almost stock sho engine? If that's true, then IMO they are most certainly worth it.
