Thanks to everyone for the help so far.

I was wondering if I should change my Intake Manifold Gaskets when I change my valve cover gaskets. Also are they hard to change?

i am in the same process of putting mine back on. i was told it is ok to use the same ones again. just dont scrape clean so they dont scratch and make sure they arent bent major in any certain places. get all the old sealant off and go to your auto parts store and get the right rvtc sealer for intake gaskets. should take 600 degrees or so. put a nice bead of that to just cover and not over cover the part where the mainfold goes and back on top and tourqe bolts to a consistant rating but not over doing it. hope that might help

The intake manifold gaskets are metal and are made in such a way that you can reuse them. Don't put any RTV on them - they don't require any. Their is no rubber mating surface - they can be reused several times, however once the black paint starts flaking off then they should be replaced. They are rather cheap.

i think the ones from SHObros are 50 dollars and from the local parts store its 65 for the intake and throtle body gaskets. i was just going to get rid of the rest of the black crap on them and make a new seal with rtv and do it really good. would that be doable? thanks

Well, for that price you are getting the complete intake manifold gasket set. Which includes the intake to head gaskets, but also includes all the secondary and butterfly gaskets - which you don't need unless you are completely disassembling the intake.

I have always ordered the intake to head gaskets from my parts friend at Ford...about $25 for the pair. Or you can get the whole set Fel-Pro MS94831 (which is all of the intake gaskets) for $32.99 from Autozone...or RCM has it for $29.99 I'm not sure where someone is charging $50+!

That black crap is what seals it. It may work - I would never consider doing it. Your going to make a mess, and it is incorrect & unnecessary.

RTV for an intake gasket on the SHO? I don't even think the crack heads around here do that, and these crack heads do everything. If anything use the OLD gaskets if you can't afford $35 at the local auto store, sometimes times are hard but not that hard I would use RTV. :nut:

Just clean off the old ones...get all the black stuff off.

then right before you are going to use the gaskets, spray them with high temp non-glossy paint on both sides...allow the paint to dry for a few minutes and install the manifold.

To double up on the advice, change them when the black stuff flakes off. Or if you drop them in a wood chipper accidentally ;).

For their price, I always suggest replacing them when they go bad.

$42.42 from napa for the whole set, if you don't mind disassembling the intake, which is easy even for a novice.

More than likely it'll go into the combustion chamber, burned, and sent out the exhaust. You're not going to blow a motor from it.

well i said whatever cause i had a bottle of RTV, my friends dad put it on we did a precise layer of it as we could and put the manifold back on, bolted it down, car ran fine. guy at the auto part store said he did it all the time, a few friends on mine have too. if you only use a thin layer it cant be that bad. seal is perfect.
