Alright my intake I took off the car painted, installed big bore butterflies, and ported and polished intake runners. The intake went on the car all the connections were the same as before. The car started right up and died right away. I checked all the vac lines and they were all connected and fine there were no holes within them. I had someone watch under the hood and find out what the intake was doing and there was air shooting out of the upper right intake runner near the gasket. Do the gaskets need to be gasket sealed? Like is there too much air coming out of there causing the car to stall instantly? My car is an atx. I need help a.s.a.p. Thank you in advance.

No, those gaskets don't need to be sealed with gasket sealer. Take off the manifold again, and make sure everything is even and sealed correctly. Then once you tighen all the bolts, try to tighten them as evenly as possible

We did we took off the intake twice and made sure everything was connected and the bolts were evenly tighted. Is there something on the intake manifold that could have failed? Because I put a stock intake on there from a 94 atx and it turned on right away no problem.

When Corey mentioned that the butterflies would not seat flush when closed concerned me. When the butterflies are closed they should seat flush.. There should be no space in between.

Im not positive that would make the car not hold a idle, but its something you should consider. Just make sure everything is plugged in. If it starts and then dies...its gotta be something really obvious you guys are just not catching.

Yeah, Jay me and corey checked all of the connections. We compared them to his white atx and they were all the same. Do you think the butterflies would cause the car to stall out because its getting to much air? I bought the butterflies from midwestsho I wonder if any other people have experienced problems with their bbb's. Of course something like this could probably only happen with me because I got bad luck, lol. Oh well hopefully I get this problem taken care of soon.

The butterflies won't make it stall. You can run with them stuck or wide open no problem except lack of power. I run no butterflies on my 94 without a problem

Sounds like you intake is not seating 100%. Try to loosen as much of the intake as you can, get it to seat and then tighten everything back up. Replace your gaskets if possible as well

agreed my butterflys are open all the time right now,due to vac canister ticking you lose a little low end tq but will not cause the problem your seeing
more than likely you just dont have it down on the heads correctly.there should be little alignment nubs that stick up from the heads make sure it sets down on them then start in the middle with the intake bolts and go in a circle tighten them in 2 stages

I already replaced all the gaskets on the intake. They are all part of a brand new set from fel-pro. I think the problem is possible that the intake isn't sitting 100% like it was before we'll have to check it out. I think it was odd though because when I put the stock intake back on first time it worked and started perfectly, but 3 times with the modified intake and nothing happened just didn't want to stay running.

My friend had this problem...You need to loosen the couplers, tighten the runenrs down to the heads, then tighten the couplers down.

make sure that the modded intakes' mating surface is flat... use a staight egde and make sure there is no low spots...

when you started the car did it rev up? or did it just die fast?
could you hear any loud whistles?

Which gasket are you talking about, the one on the heads or the ones for the BBB's? If it's the later, you need to check your silicone couplers and make sure they are not cracked, allowing in more unmetered air flow.

As for the air shooting out, what kind of supercharger set up do you have to allow boost at idle? :nut:

When the car turned on it would die right away but we kept it revving up by stepping on the pedal. I think it definitely isn't sitting right or that one of the couplers is cracked because my couplers were in pretty rough condition after coming off the stock intake before paint. Anybody know where I could get some new couplers for a fairly low price? I can't wait to get this thing running it sounded so good with bbb's and ported intake runners :)

BTW, make sure your IAC/IAB is plugged in. When placing the intake back on, the little connector can get lost under the plenum and other wiring/hoses. If you leave it disconnected, it will not keep an idle unless you keep the revs up manually.
