Hey gang,

I've read that the intake gaskets are reusable. I need to disassemble the entire intake for cleaning, and painting. I was going to have it P-coated, but the $ is way too tight.

Anyway, I have the intake to head gaskets allready, but can I reuse the intake runner and BB gaskets or should I get a new set at AZ?

I was under the impression that, as long as you are careful, and the runner gaskets dont tear, they can be reused. When I took my intake off for cleaning, i took off the cross-over tube, took the gaskets off, and throughly cleaned them and the clamps before reinstalling.

I was wondering though, does the narrowed middle section of the runner gaskets restrict airflow through the manifold? can they be trimmed down to allow more flow?

I agree with yamahaSHO

Buy new ones

I took mine off in order to clean the EGR nostrils and tried re-using the gaskets - No luck !~!
Be safe, its tough investing that much time into removal, cleaning, and poweder coating (in your case) then put it all back together and have a leak.

My gaskets tore as I disassembled the intake. I bought a new set beforehand since they are relatively cheap compared to other SHO parts. Do yourself a favor and purchase some ahead of time. I would also pick up about 7 cans of Berryman's B12 to clean out the runners and tanks.

whats the best method for cleaning the intake? i took mine off and cleaned it as a whole assembly...i got decent results. would it be better to disassemble it, and then dump a bunch of berrymans in a bucket and soak the parts?

[singing] Get in the zone... [/singing]

 Well, I ordered the gaskets from AZ for the cam covers and intake.

Maybe Jesse James will deliver them personally in that lowered Merc wagon with the bichin' flame job....... not.

I dissassembled the entire intake and sprayed Berryman's B12 directly into the runners and tanks until I was satisfied with the results. I would skip the whole soak the parts in cleaner idea. Despite the product being very potent it still took me 8 cans to get all the gunk out. The long and narrow primary runners take a little more effort to clean. Good luck!

Where can I get berrymans, next paycheck I take apart my intake and take off my valve covers for painting so I might as well clean out the intake. Wal-Mart here I don't think has it.

pickup some pennzoil prosyn or something on those lines. It is some form of a synthetic cleaner. The can has a really nice adjustable nozzle straw and works just as good if not better than berryman's for the same price. Pick it up at Advance Auto Parts.

What I use to clean every intake before powder coating them. Works like a champ!

I took my intake and cam covers to a machine shop for cleaning. The soaked it in a cleaning solution and bead blasted it.I was VERY pleased woth how clean it came out.It was like new all the way through.Only paid like $35 for it all.Was well worth it for me to not get all that mess everywhere,AND the powder coat will have a good base to stick to.
Any machine shop should be able to do it.
Check into it,you'll be happy you did

Ohh and BTW
if the black paint is chipping off the intake to head gaskets, trash em.

You can use the Non-Chlorinated brake cleaner too. It is as good as Berryman's and I can get it for under a dollar a can on sale.

And for the really stubborn carbon deposits use the paste/gel type paint remover.
