Hey I just purchased an alpine CDA-9807 Cd player off ebay and was wondering just how difficult it is going to be to install. I have never done anything like this before, but a friend of mine said he'd help me and hes installed a couple before. Is everything I need to install it right in the box? or do I need something else? Someone had mentioned to me something about an amp wiring kit, due to a built in amp? whats that about. anyway if anyone knows of anything else I'll need or how to install it step by step, (website or something?) I would really appreciate it. Thanks

All the SHOs have an amp or two in them so your going to have to get a bypass. If you have the ford premium sound you just need one and it'll cost you like $18. If you have the JBL I'm not sure. Just remove the two wiring harnesses that go into the amp and plug the ends into the bypass. If you don't do this your going to have distortion and eventually those amps will overheat and die. The only other thing you should need is a wiring harness for the deck. Circuit City will try to sell you these things that just clip on and those are great but a little bit more expensive. If your friend has done decks before then he should be able to connnect the wires and you can just get a ford wiring harness. It should have two pieces. A rectangular power one and a square speaker one. you don't need a mounting bracket since its a DIN cd player and ford has two din slots in the SHO. When I put in my alpine I actually lost bass in my speakers, but that didn't matter since I was putting in a sub. I bet you could still use the amp/s in the back if you converted those RCAs to High level inputs, but that'd be a job. Good luck and be glad your not paying someone wayyyy too much when you see how easy a job it is.

thanks a lot for the post.
i got another question regarding the bass, I like bass :) a lot, if i were to get a new sub at the same time, what would i be looking at for a job then? what would i need? (a new amp for it, or would it be fine w/o) is it as simple as taking out the stock sub and putting the new one in?
thanks

if you get a new sub you will thank yourself if you buy a new amp also. the stock amp simply isnt powerful enough and it wont have a signal anyway when you install the bypass kit for the head unit. i have an alpine head/amp/sub setup and im VERY happy with it. you *can* put a 10" sub in the stock box. i had done it some time ago. i put a 10" rockford in it and it sounded awesome. but keep in mind i had a 300W amp on it. let us know what you do.

so thinking hypathetically here, i get the cd player installed and bypass the amp(s), (ive got the JBL premium system which has 2 amps one for the sub, so do i need 2 bypass things) also i get a sub (looking at a 10" to put into the stock box) for an amp, what should i get for the new sub? any suggestions? im looking to pay as little as i can as im kidna short on $$. so other than the bypass (or maybe 2?) and the new sub and amp, what else will I need?

the one bypass kit should include the sub bypass so you wont have to buy two. it all connects to the harness in back of the stock radio. easy as cake. i picked up a 300W Phase Linear PL300 2 channel once on ebay for like $200 or so i think, awesome awesome amp. the sony explode amps are fairly cheap if i recall, you should check them out. those are my recommendations.

What you need is a "Metra" wiring kit. It includes both the amp bypass cable and the wiring harness for installing an aftermarket hu. I wouldn't use the bypass cable; I'd simply unplug both the harnesses from the factory amp (BIG (NOT SIZE) *POS*) and remove the wire harness coming from the factory head unit 2 factory amplifier all together. But then again, you'll have to re-run new wires for the internal speakers (more work, but better results and placement to fit setup) from your new head unit.

If you do plan to utilize the built-in amp from the Alpine hu, you "should" run a fused 10 awg or larger direct positive feed from battery. Otherwise, I believe the amp should just function fine using the factory harness power wire.

As far as sub recommendations, let me know your budget & plan/goal, I'll be able to assist you better.

Check out Parts Express
They sell the kits are fair prices. I've never used my amp bypass cables, so I don't know if it has sound or clarity issue, but I HIGHLY doubt it. I simply took out the factory wire and run all new wires, as it won't suit my need. I'm running no rear fill and component set up front - Thus amp bypass to use existing wires won't do any good.

93 Blkbuty,
As Lykesho mentioned early in this post, he & I are not sure how the 2 amp system should work. I'm assuming the 2nd amp (JBL sub) connections are just "tapped" with the connections from the 1st amp. If you're going to go with new amplifiers anyways & are willing to run new speaker wire (I did - I hate factory stuff), you won't even need the bypass cables. If you don't want to run new ones, I believe the single bypass cable "should" still work for the 2 amp setups. I don't have the part # handy with me, it's in the car, I will post part # when get off work.

'sup man? If you've got the Premium JBL sound you CAN integrate the amps into your setup with your aftermarket radio. Installing radios is easy, it's what I do for a living. Go to Circuit City and go to the Roadshop and ask for a MET AL1680 and a 1990-1998 Ford amp integration cable, I can't remember the part number right off hand. The AL1680 will have two ends, one little white one which will plug into the back of the Alpine deck and a longer white one, 8 on top and 8 on bottom, this is the universal side. Then the other harness will have 3 connectors, the opposite gender of the 8/8 connector, still white, and on the other end it'll have a long gray one, I think it's got like 6 or so pins, and there will be either a little gray or little black box with 9 pins in a 3x3 matrix. What you do here is plug the gray harness in your dash into the gray harness on the wiring kit and then you find the thick gray cable with a black end with silver metal on it, line it up CAREFULLY and press it into the small black connector. If you're positive that it's hooked up right, CRAM it in there. It's hard to get it to go. After your wires are straight, slip your antenna and your wiring harnesses through the cage (the metal thing around the radio) if you don't know how to get it off, release the face and carefully remove the trim ring of the radio. Then you'll see two little slide mechanisms on the side of the radio. Move the little pieces with the dimple to the middle and move the cage towards the rear of the radio. Since Alpine rules and their cages also rule, slide it in the dash and it'll lock itself in there. Plug the harness into the back of the radio, hook the antenna up, put the face back on and test it. If it works, leave it on and slide it in the dash. If it stays working, pop the trim ring on and you're good to go :) If you choose to go the route of bypassing the amps, you'll need an amp bypass harness, Circuit City will have those too.

That's my $.02

Sorry about the delay...
It's none of the above.
It's METRA 70-5514 FORD PREMIUM SOUND WIRING HARNESS

quadmasta-
thanks a lot for the post man much help
one question, by doing all that you've mentioned, by intergrating the amps into the aftermarket head unit, does this basically void the built in amp or the cd player? for sound quality what would be my best option, or does by doing what you have said not void the built in amp?
i hope you understand what im trying to ask
again thats a lot for the help man
