Hey guys and girls,I was just wondering are both turbos on the 2011 Ford taurus SHO oil driven?because I was watching a YouTube channel where the guy was replacing both front and rear turbos and he mentioned that the turbo near the firewall was electric. I was a bit confused .

Oil driven, YT full of improperly edited statements. Oil cooled and lubricated with air cooling.

Not sure what is meant by "oil driven". Both turbos are driven by the exhaust and have coolant and oil lines to them as well for cooling and lubrication.

We do have electric steering rack vs hydraulic (oil driven?!) that's located near the firewall but not sure how that could be confused with the turbos.

Let me quote directly:

Lubrication Helps Heat Dissipation

Another function of the motor oil in the turbocharger is heat dissipation. If the temperature gets high enough, the heat could cause the metal components of the turbocharger to soften, resulting in catastrophic failure. When considering temperatures and speeds this extreme, oil starvation for even a few moments during high-speed or aggressive operation could lead to heat build-up that micro-welds the metal components of the turbo, which would cause the turbo to seize.

Sorry about that I meant oil cooled lol.had my car throw a bunch of smoke every now and then.i would have to put oil in it every two weeks.until last week I went to start the car,all of a sudden the car was smoking like crazy like if it was on fire.turned the car off.guy who works on cars down the block thought his car was on fire.dude checked my car and said that my front turbo might be bad.
