So I'm driving the other day, and all of a sudden my SHO has an epileptic fit, and throws the CEL at me. And then it goes away. So does the light.

I get home, and check the codes, and I get:

216 (M) Primary circuit failure - ignition coil 2 - Ignition Systems

I'm almost certain that it's the coil, since it feels like it's missing two cylinders, however there's one weird thing:

Whenever this happens, the tach needle drops about 500-700 RPM, but the actual RPM doesn't. And sometimes, it bobbles back and forth. But never all the way down to 0. I also never have trouble starting it; she always fires on the first turn of the key. Would a failing coil cause this behavior, or should I be looking at something else, like the DIS? Or both?

Yeah I can't make it until like Sunday. Tonight I have a work thing, followed by a hot date thing , friday and Saturday I have the photoshoot. I'll give you a call tomorrow tho, I should still have the number in my phone.

And in addition to the above, whenever the car goes haywire, the tach won't go above 2.5k RPM. I know this, because in 3rd at 55, it was still showing 2500RPM, and the secondaries weren't open.

Sunday's cool X, we look forward to seeing you. :thumb:

I can't help but wonder if your symptoms are related to a failing sensor rather than the coilpack. What triggers the coilpack?

We'll swap in a known good 'pack to eliminate that variable, but I'm not sure that the DIS from my parts engine is any good.

Enjoy the shoot!

I'll PM you the contact info

So all signs point to a bad DIS...

****. Anyone know where I can get a new one locally? I don't want to have the car like this going into next week. :frown:

Do the DIS modules give intermittent failures, or could it simply be a ground (4 screws) problem? You may want to start with that, X. Of course you're still welcome to the one off my parts engine.

If I were able to crutch over there, I'd swap it onto my car to see if it were good and save you the trip. Unfortunately, I don't see myself crutching down the state route :nut: :)

I'm sure if you tried the WTB section you'd find something, but it may still be faster (and cheaper) to run up here quick. Besides, I'm just about out of beer...

Good luck, X.

I cleaned the ground points throughly when I did the tune up, and I didn't remove the DIS, so that wouldn't be the issue. It's been doing this since before the tune up.

Miller or Heineken, sir? Or both? :thumb:

It was the DIS. I didn't have time to run up to CT, and last night it just went and never came back after that.

Picked up the ****** Wells version at AZ for $130. Hoping and praying that it's doesn't **** the bed on me anytime soon.

Don't worry Mels... I'll still bring up some beer. :)
