After reading several post about ignition cylinder/door ding/key problems I decided to let AAA p/u the cost of my ignition cylinder replacement, (up to $100 for "plus" members). My SHO would start w/o any key or once started w/ key you could pull the key out. Also the door dingy or chime always ringing w/ the key out was annoying.
So being off work today-Friday-I called AAA 1st thing and told them my ignition would not turn, (which was not the case), they sent out a technician and I told him it just started turning-which was a lie and he told me to bring it in.
They replaced the cylinder/key assemble in about 30 minutes but wait it would not start just kept turning over but no ignition. After a few moment I suggested they put the old one back in and it would not even turn to start it, they then put the new one back in and it wouldn't turn either?? So they brought in the "expert" and he got it to start with the old key and then took out the old one and said, "why did they use the small eared cylinder?"
He then reused my old housing assemble with a new key cylinder w/ large chrome ears, made sure the key worked on my doors and viola.
You could even see where the brass retainer had broken off the old one allowing the chime to never stop. All in all it was just over 2 hours and (3) locksmiths later and my cylinder was fixed for free, even got them to make me a spare key. I did not expect this to take so long but for free I cant complain
