Identify this exhaust component

Ripped off my old exhaust today and heard this stuff rattling around on the insides of the pipes. Either some critter was storing wood chips in my exhuast system or it's... part of the catalytic converter???

Platinum from the cat so salvage and get some cash.

and re-read the story of"the cat that killed the SHO". that stuff can get sucked back into the cylinders during hi vacuum situations and it absolutely ruins the rings and walls.
