Lets just start out by saying that I have a 95 Sho ATX. My car runs very cool when I have the heater on high, it sometimes gets into the normal area, on the temp guage when I have the heater on low. I think I need a new termistat. When the heater is on low and the temp does rise I smell oil. It's not a massive oil smell but you can deffenetly smell it. What does anyone think it is. Please Help. shrug

I think you need to move this topic to the engine maintenance section. I also think you need a new 190 degree thermostat and to check for an oil leak from the front main crankshaft oil seal. Ready for a new timing belt?

So whan shoul the timing belt be changed? I think I read somewhere that the Atx's are somewhere around 100k. So You think check the seal around the front main crankshaft oil seal and change the thermostat! Besides The Sho Shop where else can I get parts like the 190 thermostat.

sounds like its been running too cool too long. replace your thermostat and clean engine. oil smell from oil leaks or spillage. ordinarly small leaks or spills will burn off or wash off [from rain]. with clean motor you'll be able to see you leaks hopefully and effect repairs. any good parts store carries thermostats. buy a good one [not the cheapest] the quickest way to blow a head gasket is with a stuck stat

Recommended replacement times on the t-stat and front main are at 60k. It would be advisable to check your water pump, timing belt and CPS at that time as well, since they are also 60k items as well plus you'll be right there anyway.

The t-stat you can find at at most auto parts stores, just make sure you get one with a jiggle valve. Rockauto is a very good place to get a water pump and front main. Very reasonable prices IMO. SHO Nut or FPN are also good sources for your SHO's maintenance needs. I highly recommend both.
