I murdered my hose with a knife! It's bleeding and I need help!

So there's this hose coming from the right of the T-Stat housing, and it's was leaking, see. Every time the T-Stat opened, I got a nice white eruption burning off the exhaust from leaking coolant. So I can't drive the car longer than five minutes.

So I tried to remove the two clamps. Can't get it. Tried breaking the clamps. Wont break. Tried cutting the hose in two with a knife. Couldn't cut it all the way around. I don't want to have to rip off my intake, because I need a service very badly and I don't have the mula to do it right this second. I just need the car on the road for the next few weeks. Getting antsy and want my SHO back now!!!

Also, what the **** kinda hose is it?? What size? No service books list a part number, so I guess I'll just have to cut a piece, but what diameter? Does it have an inner lining? (I would assume so, because it was leaking at the edges, which usually means an internal leak in the lining of the hose)

So what's the deal?? Do I have to remove the whole T-Stat housing? That means new gaskets and T-Stat, which I can afford. But what is involved in taking the housing off? Looks pretty straight foward, but then again, I have found looks are always decieving with this engine. Any advice or tips are much appreciated.

Also, I'll search in performance or post there, but I'll ask here while I'm at it... What is a reccomended T-Stat? Stock or should I run a cooler one?

Thanks.

BTW, is there a gasket behind the T-Stat housing?

Have you tried grabbing the hose where it goes around the T-Stat housing with a pair of open-end pliars, clamping down and twisting, that has always worked for me when trying to break hoses loose off things like that. Their is a rubber gasket that the T-stat sits in, that is all that is behind that housing. If you remove the two bolts on the T-stat housing you can simply pull it off. However, be very careful with the two studs when removing the housing and installing it. They are very fragile and have a dendancy to break.

(So far) the T-stat and housing aren't the problem. Thanks for the tip about the housing bolts. They look pretty weak. But I need to replace the hose coming from the right of the housing. It's maybe 2.5 inches long and has two 2(!!!) clamps on it.

Probably one of the TB coolant lines, all of which are 5/16". If you really can't get to it, just remove the TB and leave the intake in place.

No, the large diameter, very short hose coming from the right of the housing. Just to the right of THAT hose, the TB coolant line (5/16") comes off.

See? nobody know what the **** it is!!

Is it the short hose about 1.25" in diameter that goes towards the firewall?

Anywhere in this pic?

That hose actualy bridges a gap about a quarter inch. I changed it a couple of years ago when I thought it was leaking. (The leak was actually from the heater hose durectly above.) My recollection is that you have to remove the housings on either side and pull it out as a unit. That would include pulling off the thermostat housing from the water pipe. You'd need gaskets for each of the two housings plus it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a new o-ring for the water pipe. You have to disconnect a number of hoses including the heater hose. It looks like you have the original heater hose and if it's not already leaking it probably will after you pull it off. It'd be a good idea to replace the rubber part of the heater hose which I belive it is still available. I just took the short hose and housing to a parts store and matched it up with a larger hose which I cut to size.

There may be an easier way to replace that hose but I don't think so. Sorry for the bad news.

Pull the intake and remove the front head water outlet housing to get to it. Sorry.

My car is in a million pieces!

That hose was a pain in the butt. For us to get it out we had to cut the hose to remove the housing and now we have to replace it.

Well, a few good things are coming out of this slow and painful process:

-clean parts!
-60K!
-PIP sensor - I found why this failed... a large mouse nest sitting just behind the waterpump. Obviously has been there since I bought the car 15K miles ago. The wires are either chewed or corroded. Damn rodents!!
-go-fast stuffs!
-And either I have a factory 'glass hood or I am Heman! I lifted it myself last night like it was paper. Well, not paper... but the small chip with fibers showing through and the 2-part hood both indicate to me that I have a rare fully loaded Plus! :D
