So according to this picture by 93silverbulletSHO (thanks for the writeup!) the fan dropping resistor is connected to the engine/PCM harness:

SHOEngineRemoval007

Mine doesn't have that cable. See the cable right next to the cable for the fan dropping resistor cable? It is running to a solenoid of some kind with vacuum hoses on it (haven't been able to identify the use of that one yet). I have two connectors that fit that. One is on the harness that runs along the driver side down to the headlamps, ABS computer and what not, and the other is on the engine harness.

I'm worrying that I don't have the right harness installed. I bought the engine and harness off of eBay and I'm sure it isn't a 90. The battery cables were completely different lengths and gauges from my 90 and the starter was the one I see on 92s. Where can that connector be on this harness? I'll take pictures tomorrow but this is a real head scratcher. This would tell me why my fan doesn't turn on during the KOEO testing...

Thats not a fan drop resistor, its for the fuel pump, and you have a harness off a 92 or newer, as only gen1's have the fuel pump drop resistor.

Oh, well crap. Is this a problem then?

IE: Do I have to use the 92 front harness as well? It is completely different than the 90, as it has a huge fuse block on it and a bunch of large connectors that wouldn't appear to work with my engine bay.

Well, for one, you'll need the harness from a 90 if the chassis is a 90. Doesn't matter what year the engine is. The vacuum solenoid is for your secondary control; the other plug that fits is for your IAC. It's better to plug in everything once the intake is attached and bolted down. Less likely to confuse connections and ruin stuff.

Damn. That means I'll have to take a bunch of stuff apart to put the old harness in. Ah well, better now than later.
