So I installed the new water pump, timing belt, cam sensor, and main and cam seals last night. And ran into this20220721 030145
20220721 030139

The pump is slightly longer in the neck and now the pulley doesn't line up. I didn't want to install the belt because that seemed like it would be bad.
Is it going to be that i need a new pump, or can I get a new pulley, or spacer of some kind?

what brand and part number pump did you get

did you compare the length of the new pump with the length of the old pump you replaced

oh $shit. yeah, for every part you have to dig in and research the **** out of it before you pull the trigger-especially if it's a long distance only place like rock auto and others.

There are alot of mistakes about compatibility in parts systems. I usually go to shonutperformance and look at all the old oem part numbers he has, and use those to cross reference aftermarket or new old stock

See, I should've done what you said, luigisho. Now I gotta monkey around with their business. At least it wasn't on a more expensive part

Well. I tried. You just have to get enough run around to make the cheaper price less attractive. Mine happened to several parts on the same project and I was so f-n mad I changed my perspective on $ savings vs time and hassle savings. Locals make mistakes too but I can take the thing back no hassle. Just did that with NAPA 2 weeks ago

The length seems to be quite close. I think it's just where the pulley mounts to it

I don't know how hard it is to tell, but the thickness is a little fatter on the new one

Looks like that part number is for a MTX 3.0 engine, it is different part number for a ATX 3.2 engine. Look at the rockauto page

Darn it. When I saw it didn't fit, I suspected as such. Just raised my hackles, or whatever. Welp, looks like I'm taking it all apart again

Oh, lucky you! Now you get to deal with Rockauto's return defect, I mean process.
I'm glad I got away from all that. and that was back when you could still get a human on the phone

On the bright side, the more you do it--the faster and better you get. front 60k should be no sweat 2nd time around!

I did the crank position sensor a couple weeks ago, and it took me almost two days, where me going a little bit further only took me like 10 hours, so I hope I'm improving.

I mean, with a price of 23 dollars, I might consider not worrying about it. But I gotta get the dang thing taken apart to get it off. And I was all proud of how good I did with those gaskets and O-rings too

Looking at the old to new I am noticing that the old has a nose on the piece where the pulley mounts which is flush with the pump shaft. The new one has no nose or the pulley mount may have been intstalled backwards putting the nose on the other side witch is making the new pulley mount stick out more forward.

Yeah, I actually initially installed the pulley backwards, noticed it, swapped it, and it still didn't fit. I also noticed that the old pulley had the ****** or whatever that helped keep it aligned. But where the pulley mounts is way thicker
