comming home on a 40 mile trip,didnt hear nothing the whople way and i was doing 80 to a 100 here and there, and the radio on going also, the journey was goood until i reached my exit.When i came to a stop it soundeed like i had a bad problem!first thing is i thought it was my, or 1 of my belts cause i have a bad one that is missing a slight grove in it.But with the light on it, it shows nothing flappin about or any freays whipping.i went into a grocery store before any checking of any kind, figuring that on the start up and a rev the belt would whip and tear itself away.Well the belt is still intact, and my temp is where the pros want it, but i got a squeak and a knock in, what it seems to be is deep with-in.i need some in- put cause i am thinking rod bearings, but the squeak throws me off, i never delt with that before.And its a knock alright, and i drove it for about 5 miles, at the most, with knowledge of the knock.It never got any louder except with acceling as reg driving.I dont think this occured on the slowing down side of my trip.Im guessing with rpm's and wind noise and of course my radio, that it just wasnt loud enough for me to hear.what are my fellow peoples thoughts?she's an 89 mtx with 190*** o her with no internal maitainence at all.Just the bull on the outside.please any input im in a big jam, i got more cra[p to deal with besides her!!

after traveling at higher speeds coming to the end of an exit as ilet of the throttle i noticed there was a strange loud knock.this knock is accompianied with a sort of a scrape type of noise.ive had a prob with my belts due to a faulty harmonic balancer in the past (fixed the prob) but use a belt again cause it looked ok.but one day a piece of the belt was hangin so i cut the piece off.i was thinking this was the culprit agian but after looking at in some lighted area the belts are still there and the noise sounds terrible.im wishing its there bearings and not something worse.i did drive it for 4-5 miles more and it didnt get louder but its steady and loud.my temp gauge is at a perfect reading and i have no oil light on and my oil was topped off before my trip.im going to go have a look again, my 3yr old is with me right now so i might wait until the wife gets home from work.ill update then.

while you're checking the oil, take a look at the harmonic balancer while it's idling....is it wobbling?

alright i know i was shot!i shouldnt have went to the vodka mixes after the beers.my head hurt so bad this morning that my wife gave me some meds at 5am before she went off to work.now, dantheman68 had a audio list for me to hear and thats what it sounds like, but mine seems louder to me.i guess cause its my car its gotta be bad.the scrape noise had only been there when i first started it today but quickly went away, im not letting it run in hopes of not doing any more damage.can i get these bearings at a local auto parts chain?and if anyone here has dome this on the sho that read this, how long should this repair take me.forgot to tel everyone that i remember now of pushing it a little past 7G in second.whos fault is this......thanks everyone for your responses.

Did you check the A/C compressor? If it has frozen, and the car was trying to turn it on (Defroster set on), it would shred the belt.
