i was riding in the back seat of the 98 today trying to chase down a really annoying squeak. i peeled back the package shelf cover on the passenger side to see if it was coming from the strut only to find a disturbing amount of rust on the strut tower inside the car...yes...INSIDE the car. this can't be a good sign as pieces of metal were rotted away. i was almost afraid i might poke my finger clean through it. is it time to part this beast out?

High load bearing surfaces, and a realistic look at what you think you can do without paying someone.

This happened to someone on TCCA but the strut punched through. I would guess if it is near that bad then it's toast.

sorry man, the same thing just happened to my winter beater, and its all done.....
the strut punched out the mount and everything around was rotted out too, I put my finger to it to find out there wasn't anything but paint.

don't tempt me, tom...the car's already been on my shit-list for a couple of months now. as far as work i can do meself, that answer for anything structual is a fat lot of nothing. i have no access to any cutting tools or welding equipment. i'm hoping i'm just over-analyzing what i found,...
