so i bought my SHO with a hypertech chip that the previous owner gave me. I called hypertech and they said it is for a 93 not a 92 like I have.
Will this chip be compatible or should I just sell it?

on the chip the numbers are:
PN:630421
SN:1191487

not sure if that helps.....but ya

There should be a sticker on the passenger side...open the front door, it should be above the door hinges.

Is your car an MTX or ATX?

As far as the tune on the chip...its probably all in that serial number, but I don't know if you'll ever find any info on it.

all 92's are mtx.... 93 is when the atx came out and the whole point of the hypertec chip is to change shift points on the atx. if you have a mtx its non compatible

:thankyou:
Sadly I know that 92s are all MTX, I just can't ******* read.

The internets say that chip is for an MTX, so it should work. I'm pretty sure all gen 2 MTXs used the X2J processor, it was the earlier ones that were different.

well i put it in and I think I can feel alittle more low end. The tires will chirp if I rop on it from a roll in first and second just a touch. Now I have the cobra MAF and what not can the hypertech chips be reprogrammed for mods?
I'd prefer not to buy another chip :)

Ive had a hypertech chip in my car for 3 years and its worked just fine. 91 to a 93 MTX. If its an ATX and its an MTX chip vise versa dont use it. FYI check the part # on it and check with Autozone.

I don't think they can be tuned, we can try but I doubt it. A picture will help.

why?
i'm thinking the "more low end" may just be in my head. But why do you say this?

Unless you have a accurately tuned butt-dyno a real dyno can show if it will work. Feeling doesn't always mean more power. The generic un-tunable ships are not always the best approach.

Some other info: SHOTimes

SHOsource should be able to reprogram these for a nominal fee.

We can try but we already were not able to do superchips.

i wouldn't bother with any sort of chip unless it was tuned specifically for the mods on the car by someone who really knows their stuff or tuned by someone while it was strapped to a dyno. most generic tunes are exactly that...generic. they throw in some timing, bump the rev limiter (silly with stock cams anyway) and adjust the air/fuel curve...and since our ECUs are adaptive, the computer compensates and overrides that tune after a while anyway.
