I was coming back up to school last night when my car just started to smell. It got worse and worse and i realized it was coming out of the vents. I tried putting the control on every setting, but the smell just continued to come out. It smelled really dusty-like. Does anyone have an idea of what this could be? shrug It's never done this before, and i'm used to having my vent on all the time. Thank you.

NMI (need more information). You're going to have to provide a little more information than a "dusty-like" smell. Are you seeing coolant on the passenger side footwell? Is the windshield fogging on the inside. Losing coolant? Losing refrigerant?

Timbosho,

I'm not sure what you are smelling, or experiencing, anti freeze, dust, etc.

However here is an obsevation. The A/C evaporator has a drain hose that drains off the water that is condensed out of the air. The drain hose can become plugged up with dust and crap. The water becomes stagnant, and mold will form.

The vent hose comes out the firewall. Make sure it is not plugged up. Mold can be a health hazzard. rangerj

I have smelled coolant a few times lately right after startup, or after travelling for more than 10 minutes. The windows don't fog up at all unless it's raining, and there is no coolant on the passenger floor. I'm not loosing any coolant, and my refridgerant is almost gone, but has been like that since i got the car (the A/C will work for 10 minutes, then quit). I will check the A/C evaporator drain hose. Thanks guys.
