alright, so i just finished fixing my car, and yet another thing is wrong. as i'm driving around a couple days ago, i notice a lot of smoke coming up from the back of the engine and towards the windshield. i immediately turn around and go back home (since i was less than a mile from my house) i pull into the garage, grab a flashlight, pop the hood, and even more smoke comes out. i look around for a while, and see it's coming from around the back of the engine bay. it didn't seem like it was on the engine so i look underneath to find one of my cats all wet and just smoking like there is no tomorrow. i start to check all my fluids and notice my power steering is almost gone, not to mention most of it is on the ground in my driveway. i'm pretty sure this is a simple problem, i think it's just a hose that needs to be replaced somewhere in the back of the engine bay, but if someone has had this problem previously and it isn't as easy as i think it is, any type of "heads up" would be much appreciated. thanks

You will have to clean it up, fill it up, then perform a thorough inspection to find the source of the leak if you have not been able to find it.

The possibilities are: PS pump to pressure line (most likely and most difficult to replace), pressure line to the rack, rack to ehe cooler, cooler return line to the reservoir, reserveroir, supply line to reservoir, the pump, the rack.

Man dude, I'm going thru the same s&%t. But the smoke is actually coming thru the side of the engine where the pulleys are. I've been told is the pump, while another said it's the pressure line. With me, I believe the pump has to come off and be manually tested, then go from there. But just in case it is the pump I will have a new/rebuilt one handy. When the pump is then taken off, I will see if the pump was put on correctly....

Is there any seals or bearing within the pump area that will cause this must leakage? If so, I do believe that this is where my leakage is coming from.

I had dye put in to see where the leak was coming from and the mechanic said it was indeed the pump. But, can it be something inside the pump area that will cause the leakage?

We need some reply's on this one.........And I know there is allot of threads on this but I haven't heard whether there are any seals or gaskets, etc inside the pump area.

I had this problem with my headers. I melted a PS line (rack to cooler line to be exact) which was leaking and burning off on my exhaust pipes. Smoked like crazy from the back of the engine. If you are lucky, you can only replace a section of the tubing and not the metal connections. There is no reason to replace the entire line if you just have a cut.

Here is my $3.89 fix. I took a piece of metal rod about 4” in length from a hardware store. I then cut the line, slide the hose on both ends of the rod and put screw clamps on. Very simple and took all of 10 minutes to fix. Still holding strong. Hope this helps.
