how to tell if a bearing needs replaced

I am rebuilding my mtx and I am worried that it needs a new pinion bearing. how can I tell if it is bad it seems slightly looser than the other bearigs but I may have goten some brake cleaner on it and haven't reoiled it. also if it would need replaced do they have to be ordered or can I pick one up from napa or some thing like that.

The SHO does not have a pinion bearing. Are you referring to the transaxle input shaft bearings? Those bearings are pressed onto the input shaft. How are you checking it to determine that it is "looser" than the other bearings? Those tapered bearings are loaded into the race properly only when the shims are installed in the cups and the transaxle case halves are bolted together.

I have a spare of the driver side end bearing that I did not install during my tranaxle service because the original checked out to be in great shape after 269,000 miles. I was not able to purchase the engine-side shaft bearing through SHO NUT when gathering the parts for that service. They did not have that part stocked.

I am just talking about while it is unloaded, it seems just a little looser than the fifth gear shaft bearing. I just thought i would ask if there is a way to tell since i have the tranny torn apart. sorry I refered to it as a pinion bearing I read in the factory manual they called it a pinion bearing.
the bearing doesn't look damaged and the rollers don't apear scoured in any way and it turn equally well as the fifth gear shaft bearing. it just seams alittle looser side to side but it is also the largest bearing.
