On the slicer wheels, what method does everyone use to pop off the cover to get access to the lug nuts? I try a thin screw driver with a rag wrapped around it but it still sometimes scratches the wheels.

half-way there, I think.
I use a business card and a screw driver. Slide a corner of the card between the rim and cap. Then put the screw driver between the card and the cap.

I use a couple of screwdriver-sized pick tools. you can reach in the gap between the wheel and the cap, turn the pick, and pull the caps off from behind.

I use a piece of cardboard beneath the tie iron. I have not always done this, howver. I have a few chips out of the finish due to my lazyness. Does anyone know if these chips be filled with clear coat?

I use a thin piece of cardboard wraped over the tire iron. Frozen food,,PIZZA!!!,, boxes work great. Another goodie is the handle part of a milk jug or detergent bottle. Avoid twisting, that causes the edges to dig in.
