I'm working on putting new audio in my SHO, but I'm not sure how to mount the amps. How have some of the people here done it? Can I just drill screw holes in the stock amp mounting brackets behind the back seat? Or should I mount them to the floor? Plywood behind the back seat? I probably sound pretty dense at this point...but I'm really not sure what would be a good way...

I got a sheet of plywood, 4x8 I think.
Measured from behind the struts and ripped the board in the middle. I drilled holes and attached it with round headed bolts around the frame behind the rear seat and down the middle where the 2 peices met at the center brace.
The reason I ripped it was cause the brace buldges out a little and made it easier to put the wood in.
I mounted my 4 channel JBL amp to it and ran my speakers wires to the speakers in the car.
I mounted another amp on the other side for 1 sub but the amp wasn't big enuff, it's unhooked.
I mounted a power distribution block and ground block in the middle and ran my wires.

It don't look bad but I wish I had painted the wood or something. I would get pics but don't currently have a camera.

I had my 2 amps in the spare tire well at one point, then moved them up to the seat-back area on a board, along with the power blocks & 100a fuses, etc.

yea, i'm thinking when i get my new 4channel amp, i'm going to get some plywood, cover it with some cheap black carpet, and mount my amps (and cap if i get one) to it, and just secure it towards the rear seat in the trunk.

Definately will clean things up and give the car that "professional touch".

I really havent had any problems securing the amp i have to the floor of my trunk..but this is just one of those things that if you put the time into it, you can take more pride in having things look nice.

Let us know how it works out.

PS, i never considered using the stock mountin brackets. The amp i have is probably 3 times the amp of the stock sub amp..and I didnt think the flimsy metal could handle it.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think I'll try the carpeted-plywood-behind-the-rear-seat method. It'll take a bit more time, but it should be better in the long-run. I just ordered my sub amp (got it for 60% off retail from eBay  ), so all I need now is the subs and I can get started.

Thanks again, I'll post pics when it's done!
