How to hold engine to remove flywheel

How do you guys hold your engine from turning over while removing the flywheel. I have tried holding the crank bolt but it just loosens itself. BTW the engine is out of the car

Put a PP bolt in the fly wheel then a piece of chain over it then do the same at a starter bolt. It will do the job, you could also use a double ended box end wrench. I myself just hold it.

or if you put the bolt that you are removing in the 4th quadrant (lower left) it should be able to be held and have the bolts removed fairly easy

ill try that, I used my impact wrench but they wouldn't come out, I think there is something wrong with it it seems pretty weak. It is battery powered though and I know they don't even compare to the air tools, wish i had some of them.

you still have to hold on to the flywheel (however with less effort), but if you get the bar at the right angle you can get them to break loose easily... ive done it before... actually exactly the opposite, when i was putting them on to torque them (then you use the upper right)

Go at it with a fully charged battery for your impact. I was in the same spot when my compressor gave up during a clutch job. After a full charge, the battery powered Goodwrench[?...what ever is at Pep Boys] Racing impact worked.

I think my battery is defective it doesn't hold a charge so maybe thats why its not working right. If I don't charge it and use it it will die over night even if it wasn't used. Its only a month old too, anyway I got the flywheel off, I held it and cranked the bolts off.
