My buddy is looking at almost my clone car, but 2 years older- a '93 with 163,000 miles on it. We don't think that even one 60K has ever been done, and were wondering- what is a usual HP loss for the SHO with that kind of maintenance (or lack of it) say no 60K, old rod bearings, and intake full of **** from never being cleaned.

How much is a clean intake worth?

Just curious! :corn:

With out proper maintenance power loss can be quite noticeable. Best thing you can do for any SHO to increase the power is maintain it.

So what's an estimate?

20-30 hp? Just curious what y'all think an unkept SHO runs at.

I would think it depends on what "unkept" means. Do you mean not changing oil, doing nothing? Or just not a 60K?

If your talking about just not doing a 60K, then I wouldnt think that much unless it was beat everytime it was driven.

I would think it really all depends on what was not kept up and how hard it was driven. A ok kept car with easy driving I think is better than a well kept car that was beaten on constantly.

Depending on the timing belt you can be looking at a significant loss. I dynoed my SHO shortly after getting it, it was around 163K then, it had some mods too, 125fwhp and below 150 on torque. Once the timing belt was replaced and properly timed...wow what a difference :oogle:

I agree with "NiNeTy Fo SHO" 60k really doesn't gain much power back, unless the valves are way off. Oil seals and timing belts won't do much. If the timing belt is jumping teeth on the pullys thats another story, but if that happened it probably wouldn't run, your cams would be out of synch with each other and the crank. Those sensors might help gain back some power, but really when they go bad the you loose your tach, or it just won't start.

Thanx!

Wow- It kind of sounds like the gummed up intake really doesn't make a huge difference, but the belts may be a big problem. I do think that being a tooth off, you would really tell the difference though. The non-maintenance I spoke of, isn't really a non-maintenance of expected items, but other stuff like the 60K unsuspecting owners don't do, cleaning the inside of the upper intake, junk on the valves, etc.

We passed on the car after running a carfax, too... :frown:

Thanks for the replies!
