what are the cost of a full 60k...
how much if you get the parts and the tools and do it yourself?
how much if you run it to a dealer and have them do it?

also...do most of the regular dealers have the knowledge to do this well?

Mine Cost arround $600.00. I did it myself.
I am more the wiser.

I did however buy the Special tools to compress the Tapet and Taper holder.
I got a cheap Pick for about $3.00.

Most parts came from Rockauto.

The Felpro gasket set came from AutoZone.

Word to the wise. Get yourself and extra set of cam shaft seals. It will take about 3 days for them to come in.
Use some lithium grease to **** them up and a heat gun to heat the cam housing up to expand it a little.

Mine cost over $1000 from Ford Performance Specialist in Douglasville, GA. Now that I tore it all apart trying to find a mysterious knock and rebuilding the bottem end myself, I feel like a fool.
Buy the 60K kit off ebay for $75 bucks. A $20 how to video off ebay. $160 bucks for gaskets and carb cleaner(to clean out your intake-->it will be very dirty). If the miles aren't too high you will probably just be able to flip the shims over. Buy a dremel for $30 bucks and some stones to gasket match your runners and heads. Tear it apart, put it back together. Resale the 60k kit on ebay for $75 bucks, the how to video(or make a copy)for $20. Buy some degreaser for your garage...wham..done. 150-200 bucks. It looks mean, but the intake/runners come off in one big piece, then it's just another overhead cam motor under there with valve covers and cams.

150-200 bucks for a full 60K? I think your forgeting the Spark plugs, spark plug wires, valve cover gasket set, O2 sensors, thermostat, water pump, CPS, etc

All you talking about is cleaning the intake and check the valve lash, he is talking about a FULL 60k as he says his car is "AT LEAST 25K over a 60K service"

Oh and Basically if you want to go about this cheap, you can forget about the gaskets unless needed and be very carefull when uninstalling them forget about the preventive maintenance stuff (unneeded gaskets, thermostat, etc) and go with some AC delco wires (bout $40), motorcraft plugs ($25), O2 sensors ($80), CPS ($40), where ever you get/rent/borrow valve tools and if you need shims. you could hold off on the front end 60K if you dont have any leaks but judging by your other post sounds like you may need some O2's and a CPS. So figure between: $200 - $600 depending on how much "preventive maintenance" you do. But if your water pump starts leaking or something 5K later youll have to go back in...

check for oil in your spark plug wells to determine whether youll need spark plug well selas (some people save $72 by using some silicone or form a gasket)

He's right. A good 60k will include all that stuff. Plugs and wires. Another $80 bucks. O2 sensors, another $80 bucks(even though the place that did mine didn't change em). The plugs well seals, valve cover gaskets, complete intake manifold gaskets set are included in a kit I bought off ebay for $100 bucks. So add another couple of hundred.

And yes. Change the water pump while you do the the timing belt and have the dust covers off. It takes longer to do than the entire 60k itself. I did it. It sucked real bad.

I think that I will for sure be doing the water pump etc...

Take a look at my other post entitled should I sell it?

There are enough things that are starting to go wrong, that I am sure it would be worth it to do any and all preventative maint all at once. That is IF I decide to keep it. I am thinking of selling it locally and trying to buy an MTX. Although I am thinking that an MTX is still going to need as much work as the one I have does...but if I am going to invest that much time, MTX may be worth it....I dunno. Have not decided for sure.

not to steal the thread , but how much should it be to get the valve lash, rod bearings, all valve cover gaskets, plugs and wires, timing belt, water pump, and cps done by the local SHO guy? $400-$500????

most of the other "maintenence items" have been replaced in the last 7k miles

On selling your SHO, here are a few words...
I found my 1993 MTX on ebay. It was in a junk yard in Chat,TN. It had been sitting for a year and a half and had weeds growing in it. I have a couple of other cars, a 95 Z28, 96 SS camaros to name a few, and I wanted something will a little power and 4 doors for the car seat. I bought it for 500 bucks(the dude was trying to part it out). Had it towed to Ford Performance in Douglasville, GA and they got it running(60K, clutch and other stuff). My dad lives in GA(I live in Omaha,NE) and he went and picked it up. It didn't have any rust(southern car) and ran ok. I drove it back to omaha, and detailed it inside and out. Fixed alot of little things, ac controls, radio, switches and knobs, buttons and stuff, and just recently tore it all apart(ported the intake, heads, big bore butterflies, cold air intake, changed the rod and crank bearings, high flow Y-pipe. And yes it did cost a couple of grand, but the car has 154,000 and runs strong for a v-6. It amazes me. It keeps up with a couple of buddies camaros, beats a few. I love driving it. My Z28 does 11.90's, I like driving the SHO just as much. The car starts every time, runs like a top. Will bust on that 16 year old in a Honda with trash can exhaust, and hold a hecka lot of groceries. I figure I have spent a total of $4500 on this car, but I wouldn't trade it for the world.

If you don't don't live to deep in Iowa and close to Omaha, I could help you do it for beer....--->well maybe a little extra...it is kind of a bitch. I can't image someone doing that much work with the parts for that cheap.

Full 60K and Rod Bearnings:
Spark Plugs: $25
Spark Plug Wires: Between $40 and $110 depending on which you go with (AC Delco/Taylor/Motorcraft)
Valve Cover/Spark Plug Well Seals: $75
Intake to head Gaskets (if you dont buy whole set and disassemble intake): $30
O2 Sensors: $80
Timing Belt: $40
Water Pump: $50
Crankshaft Position Sensor: $56
Front main crankshaft seal: $7
Camshaft Oil Seals: $15
Rod Bearings: $50

You can mix and match by adding things that arent listed like radiator hose thermostat etc or just buy what you need and skip out on stuff like the thermostat, lower radiator hose, CPS, Accesory belts etc until you need them.

So an accurate price on all these parts is about $475-$575 roughly depending on how many things that are quesionable you replace or hold out on.

Valve tools depend on if you borrow rent or buy, shims depend on if you need them. If you do they are about $4 a piece. When I did my adjustment none were needed.

What kind of plugs would you want? If thats all your doing I would do it myself.
