Just wondering if anyone has had a clutch put in recently and would be able to give me a rough idea of how much. The more i think about it i dont feel comfortable doing it myself. If I had someone to show me it would be different, so I guess im gonna have to blow the cash on the install. Please let me know asap thanks guys/gals

Any reason why you wouldn't do it yourself? It's just a bunch of bolts that you have to remove. I changed my clutch last night by myself with basic tools, is a pretty simple job actually.

Sorry I can't help as far as rates go, I've never had a clutch put in by a shop...but I wouldn't be surpised if you're into it for a few hundred bucks in labor.

I charge around 6 hours at my shop. I am $70.00 per hour. You do the math.

The labor time is higher than I charge, but I like to work on SHO's.

Good Luck.

We're just north of the CT border about 10 mins from I-84 in Spencer, MA. $600 flat rate labor, plus any misc. parts (exhaust manifold studs, broken endlinks, etc.).

Actually only takes us about 3 hours, but plan on leaving the car overnight. We recommend just buying the actual clutch kit yourself and bring it with the car. Our cost on clutches are about the same as anyone can get themselves, and we usually mark them up 10%, so we just prefer not to make the customer pay more than they should have to.

I did this job in stages at my school, took a while for parts to come in (you know who you are) but I'd say with everything in hand (no broken studs etc) you could do it at home the first time in about 8 hours. If you have done things similar to this before, maybe 6. I think I could do it again in a fairly short amount of time. The brace that holds up the engine is around $135...if you can weld, you could do this for whatever angle iron costs you...also the design floating aorund here is nice...if you have access to a lift AWESOME, apparently there are alternatives though.

I was told $500 labor here in Williamsport btw....with a decent clutch you're looking at a $900 job...

Engine supports are nice, but a cherry picker works just as well if you're not interested in building an engine support. I changed my clutch by supporting the engine from the top and removing the trans by hand...taking it and resting on my chest almost like a reverse bench press. It's relatively light and pretty simple to do in my opinion. Toos bad you're not closer to Buffalo, NY...I'd do the job for $100 just cuz I like working on cars

You guys are quick!

I hadn't done such major work on the car, and I waited around for help and to borrow tools, but I took about 4 6hr days.

Are you removing the subframe completely or just sliding the tranny off with it loosened??
